College was full of turmoil for Idlewyld. He played at 3 different universities in his 3 years, only completing a full season his junior year, despite having no impactful injuries. Coming out of high school as a 5 star recruit Idlewyld made the somewhat suprising decision to stay in his hometown and play for Texas Christian University. Despite his strong performances as a freshman Idlewyld was kicked off the team with his scholarship revoked after assualting the kicker during practice mid-season. Kyle's talent outweighed his attitude problem and he began his sophomore year playing for the University of North Texas. However with one game left in the season Idlewyld, unhappy with the offenses play, refused to practice or play a snap until he got reps at Quarterback. He was again kicked off the team with his scholarship stripped. Going into his junior year Idlewyld knew he would have to calm down before he entered the DSFL draft. He entered Southwestern University, a small D3 school in central Texas. He made the all D3 team despite "taking it easy" as he called it.
