Early years
Jake Basinger was born in Neptune, New Jersey. His parents were from a blue collar background, his father working as a delivery driver for a local waste management business while his mother worked as a hairdresser. Growing up, Jake gained a singular focus on playing sports and devoted himself completely to the sport of football by the time he turned 14, having previously been a talented baseball and basketball player. He established himself as one of the premier talents at his position in the state of New Jersey and led the entire Neptune High School team in receiving yards and touchdowns as a Tight End during his senior year, demonstraing highly impressive speed for his age and size, in additino to an ability to make difficult catches in traffic. Based on the talent and performances he'd demonstrated, Jake received several offers to play college football and opted to join the Ohio State Buckeyes after having productive conversations with their coaching and recruiting staff.
College career
"After joining Ohio State University on a full scholarship, Jake barely saw the field in his first year of play. The requirement to rapidly increase his skillset, size and strength meant that most of the year was spent in the filmroom, gym and training facility rather than out on the pitch on Saturdays. He managed to get some snaps in the final 3 games of the season, and the improvement he showed over the year ensured that he was set up to be an important player in his junior year.
His second year at OSU saw him establish himself as a starter. It wasn't a spectacular season, not one that would receive any notoriety or attention when it came to awards, but it served an important role in earning Jake trust and faith from his coaching staff. This enabled him to really come out in his final year at the school. Well established as one of the best tight ends in his conferece, he posted great numbers across the board and played a huge part in the team making it all the way to the National Championship. Although they unfortunately lost, the experience and knowledge he gained will undoubtedly set him up with a great basis for the professional game. "
