Williard "Dub" Redd (born October 10, 2030) is an American football defensive tackle who is currently preparing to enter the professional ranks. He played college football for Barry Sanders University (BSU) and has declared his intent to enter the professional ranks next season.

Early years

Williard Redd, also known as Dub Redd or W.Redd for short, grew up and attened High School in Springdale, Arkansas. Dub was an only child and the son of Springdale HS legend all time passing leader Bill Redd.

Dub's high school football career started off promising as he started at Quarterback and broke several of the schools freshman passing records in his first year. Dub would suffer an unfortunate injury to his throwing hand in the first game of his Sophomore year, requiring intensive surgery and a club-like cast which earned him the nickname Dub "The Club" Redd. Unable to properly throw or handle a ball, Dub made the switch to defense where he would go onto be a force of nature as a pass rusher on the interior defensive line.

In his Senior year Dub would total 52 tackles, 18 tackles for a loss, and 12 sacks as the Springdale Bulldogs went 8-1 to a playoff birth with a devastating loss in the second round District Final. Dub was recruited as a 2 star prospect by his father's alma mater Barry Sanders University(formerly known as Oklahoma State University).

Nicknames

The Springdale local newspaper had a knack for referring to Dub by a number of monikers including but not limited to:

  • Dub "The Club" Redd
  • Williard "The Red Wizard"
  • "The Bread" Dub Redd
  • "The Redd Flying Falcon"

College career

Despite attending his father's alma mater, the story was much different for Dub coming in as a young and undersized Defensive Tackle, and not a Quarterback like his father. Dub didn't contribute much aside from Special Teams work during his Freshman and Sophomore years at BSU. However, his determination and locker room presence certainly didn't go unnoticed among his teammates and coaches earning commendations as the team's ""Strong Man"" for his exceptional attendance and performance in the weight room.

In his Junior year, Dub would finally make it into the pass rushing rotation on a situational/down basis. Redd totaled 19 tackles including 3.5 sacks and 2 forced fumbles on the season in just 6 games before his season was cut short with a Meniscus tear in his right knee.

Dub would make a full recovery from his knee injury, and in his Senior year Dub would draw national attention with a breakout season. Taking over as the full time starter at Defensive Tackle, Dub would total 47 tackles, 15.5 tackles for a loss and 10.5 sacks earning All-Big 12 honors.

Tijuana Luchadores

Dub Redd was drafted at 2nd Overall in the Season 41 DSFL draft to the Tijuana Luchadores. A controversial decision at the time, despite fundamental technique issues the Luchadores saw great promise in Redd's raw physical attributes. Redd was a quick study under coaches Jason and PBS, and after a rigorous training camp and preseason. The Luchadores started off on a 3-1 hot streak with rookie Redd at the center of their defense, and by mid season they sat at 4-3 good for second place in the division. By mid season's point Dub Redd was starting to become somewhat of a household name in the local Media. However, the second half of the season would be nothing if not controversial. The DSFL would be plagued by accusations of game rigging against Tijuana in favor of the Casino odds, and the Luchadore's season ended in a 1-6 skid dropping them to 5-9. But it takes a lot more than that to break the determination of a true Luchadore. Under the leadership of Dub Redd and Cornerback Ezra Azazel, the Luchadores vowed to claim Tijuana's 10th Ultimini Title in Season 41, else retire from the league.

New York Silverbacks

S41

And with the first pick of the S41 ISFL draft the New York Silverbacks select... Dub Redd, Defensive Tackle, Tijuana! After going first overall the Big Defensive Tackle would be headed to the Big Apple in New York for Season 41. As an immediate callup and starter on the Defensive front, Redd's 42 tackles were able to help bolster the Silverbacks Run Defense which ranked Conference 3rd and League 5th. Along with true rookie callups Loose Cannon, Sean Robinson, and The Riddler, New York would look to compete for a playoff berth. Rookie inexperience seemed to be the issue for New York early on as the Silverbacks would start 1-4. However by week 6, the New York Defense was starting to build chemistry as they would upset the defending champion Outlaws and squeeze out a second straight win against New Orleans. Unfortunately Redd's first season wasn't destined to be a Cinderella story as New York would stumble towards the end in a Win or Go Home game against Orange County which all but extinguished any playoff hopes. Nevertheless with eyes set on a comeback in Season 42 Redd would make the same vow as with last season in Tijuana. Dub Redd guarantees New York will bring home their 3rd Ultimus championship in S42, else Dub will retire from the league for all time.

S42

Entering season 42 the New York Silverbacks were back for a revenge tour. Despite the 7-9 record in S41, New York was only a few lucky bounces from being in the running for a playoff spot. Out of the gate the Silverbacks would go 3-4 in the first seven games with road losses to the top competing playoff teams Honolulu, Arizona, and Austin. Traveling to Berlin in week 8 something finally clicked for New York as the team would come away with a 31-9 road victory. Turns out the solution was in front of them the entire time. All they had to do was bench former first overall pick Dub Redd. Redd was always the brains of the defense, but being on the field in the trenches didn't allow him to see what the opposing offense was scheming up on the fly. Defensive Coordinator Leon McDavid gave Dub a headset with a direct line to the Silverbacks defensive player radio Bonzi Buddy. With Redd at the helm of the Defensive play calling, New York would continue to smash opposing competition winning 6 in a row and 8 of their last 9 games finishing as the ASFC 2nd seed with an 11-5 record. Unfortunately all good things must come to an end as the Silverbacks would suffer a devastating 7-27 loss to the Hahalua in the ASFC wild card. However you can't keep the Monke down for long. Don't sleep on the Silverbacks S43 is right around the corner!

S43

Putting in the offseason work Dub Redd made his way back into the starting lineup as a revitalized New York Silverbacks team came out the gates HOT in season 43 with five wins in a row out of the gate. Perhaps a little too full of themselves New York would suffer their loss when they walked into a trap game against the 1-4 San Jose Sabercats in week 6, followed by a trouncing at the hands of Cape Town the following week New York was on a two game skid. Having made strides in taking the role as a leader Dub kept honest with his teammates that they needed to stop looking towards the media for praise and rely on each other. The troops would rally in week 8 on the road against Sarasota with a win that would be the start of a 9 game streak to close out the season as New York finished 14-2 a franchise best record and the ASFC 1 Seed. The road to the Ultimus was going to be through New York. In the conference championship New York would face off against the perennial ASFC champion Arizona Outlaws. The game started rough as Arizona would jump to a 13-3 lead early in the 4th Quarter before New York would explode with 17 4th Quarter points lead by a Bonzi Buddy pick six to secure a 20-13 win and Ultimus bid facing off against the Baltimore Hawks. Baltimore, like Arizona, was no slouch of a team and New York just did not come prepared. An early pick six would put Baltimore up 7-0, and through 4 Quarters of a defensive struggle that score would prove to be the different as New York fell 10-16 unable to secure the Franchise's 3rd Ultimus.

S44

In a parallel reflecting Redd's development during his College career, his 4th season in the ISFL would be the mark of a breakout performance on the field in a way that finally backed the Silverbacks choice to select him in the first round. Having amassed just 6 Sacks in his first 48 games, Redd would put up 7 alone in Season 44 along with 5 Forced Fumbles to lead all Defensive Lineman. New York started off hot again winning 4 of their first 5, and closed out the regular season winning 6 of their last 8 to finish 11-5 as the ASFC second seed setting a date for a home playoff game versus Austin. There's no easy wins in this league and that would be put to the test against The Copperheads as New York squeaked out with a 27-24 Win after stopping Austin with a 4th and Goal stand to end the game and securing a Ticket to Honolulu for the Conference Championship. In another close game coming down to the last minute New York would go up 16-13 in the 4th, but a late resurgence from the Hahalua and two Field Goals later The Silverbacks would end the season in disappointment losing 16-19 to the eventual Ultimus Champion Hahalua.

S45

For Dub Redd, Season 45 spoke to his commitment to finally living up to his coveted draft status. Through his first 4 Seasons in New York, Redd had registered just 13 Sacks, but S45 would be different as he broke out tallying 13 Sacks in the season alone doubling his career totals and finally coming into the spotlight as one of the league's premier Defensive Lineman. Personal accolades aside, New York as a team had a tumultuous path if it was looking to claim its 4th straight playoff berth as the competition in the ASFC proved to be closer than the league had seen in nearly 20 seasons. Dub and the Silverbacks started off hot with a 5-3 record through 8 games, and would improve to 7-5 three quarters of the way into the season having swept all four of the out of conference opponents. However in conference was a different beast entirely, and New York ended its season in disappointment with a three game slide and 4-8 divisional record, they would sit on the outside looking in for the playoffs at an 8-8 record causing fans to question whether New York's Ultimus window was finally coming to a close.

S46

With many aging players New York's sights for a championship were past the horizon entering season 46 of the ISFL. However, despite an aging roster, The core of the Silverback's roster was still fighting for giving the team another chance at a playoff berth. Following a career high 13 sack season, Redd was looking to repeat his success at the very least of reaching a personal goal, if not to help push New York back into the dance after missing out in disappointing fashion in season 45. However, a slow start for New York quickly put them into a 2-8 hole, all but eliminating them from playoff contention. However, behind Redd and veteran leadership the season wasn't lost yet as The Silverbacks were able to chain 5 straight wins in the second half of the season. Too little too late for any playoff hopes, but for the long time Silverbacks it served as a staple for the culture behind the team. Not quick to fold or give up and looking to carry a late streak of success into season 47 of the ISFL.
