Career highlights and awards

Sebastian I (Sebastian Philip Alexander Musgrave-Smythe; born 21 June 1996) is King of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms.

Born in London as an illegitimate son of a member of the British Royal Family, Sebastian was privately tutored in England, before moving to Japan with his manservant Edwin Aloysius Hartgrove. In Japan, Sebastian took up baseball, playing for the Hanshin Jaguars, before entering the PBE draft. During his time in the PBE, Sebastian would play for the Death Valley Scorpions and the Florida Space Rangers, winning a championship with the former. During his time as a professional baseball player, he became known by his initials "SMS" (or "The Message") and was frequently addressed as "Lord Sebastian".

After winning a championship, he was quietly legitimised by Queen Elizabeth II, placing him thirty-seventh in line to the throne. A few years later, a tragic accident resulted in the death of all thirty-six relatives ahead of him in the line of succession, and Sebastian was crowned King of the United Kingdom. He would later amend his official title to incorporate some epithets bestowed by fans, while continuing to compete as "King Sebastian I of Great Britain", leaving his Royal duties to a cousin. Ultimately, this was an unmanageable arrangement, and Sebastian decided to retire from baseball in order to "do his duty" to his nation.

Early life

Raised in Godalming, Surrey by adoptive parents, Sebastian grew up believing his father had died before he was born, and his mother had abandoned him. At age eighteen, he exercised his legal right to track down his biological mother, and she revealed the truth; that she and his father had eloped as teenagers, and his father -- an Earl, and member of the British Royal Family -- had been providing for him in secret, his entire life.

Equipped with this knowledge, Sebastian wrote to his father, and left the country to take a gap year before attending university. His adoptive parents insisted on sending the family butler, Edwin Aloysius Hartgrove, along with him. While away, Sebastian resolved to defy expectations in direct response to what he perceived to be unfair treatment by his esteemed family. To that end, he returned to Japan, and took up baseball.

Playing style

Musgrave-Smythe was a 6 feet 2 inches (1.88 m), 180 pounds (82 kg) right-handed relief pitcher, employed as both a stopper and a pure closer throughout his career. Not possessing a great fastball, Musgrave-Smythe relied heavily on his technical ability, honed from years as a spin bowler in cricket.

Throwing from a three-quarter arm slot, his fastball topped out at around 90–92 miles per hour (145–148 km/h), though his main weapons were his circle changeup and a slower forkball with a late diving action, he claimed to have picked up in Japan. His signature combination of circle change and forkball made best use of his ability without a heavy reliance on power and velocity, and his particular delivery alleviated the risk of overuse injury.

His official title reads:
