Background

Arizona Outlaws

The Arizona Outlaws came off a strong season winning the Ultimus Bowl versues the Berlin Fire Salamanders and were keen to repeat last years sucesses. Calling up thier new stud RB Danny Nedelko from the DSFL to start learning behind the great yet aging Jay Cue Jr., they hope that the BBC stratagy would work well for them. In addition they also brought in a second young LB Ignatius Reilly to pair with Akaki Akayre in his second season season.

The Outlaws had a fantastic season going 13 - 3 with the QB Wendell Sailor taking home the MVP award. With the No.1 seed secured they went on to face the New York Silverbacks in the ASFC final wining a close game 31 - 28 with Wendell Sailor throwing 5 TD's. With this victory the Outlaws would play in their second final in two seasons

Berlin Fire Salamanders

A poor season last year saw the Berlin Fire Salamanders finsihn with a results of 7 - 9 finsihing 6th in the NSFC. The Berlin Fire Salamanders made some big free agents signing hoping to improve on thier fortune of last season including the young WR duo of Maximilian Hamilton & Octavio Pérez and the vetern DE Rocco Blade to help guide the young DSFL star GOAT TANNK who they called up from the DSFL. This tatic played out well for Berlin winning the NSFC 10 - 6 and securing the No.1 seed where they defeted the Yellowknife Wraiths 27 - 24 in OT thanks to a game winning FG by the kicker Known Acquaintance

Game summary

First Quarter

The Outlaws won the toss and decided to defur, a poor return by Maximilian Hamilton of 17 yards saw the first sanp of the match being taken from Berlin's 17 yard line. A quick 3 and out saw the Outlaws taken possesion on thier own 38 yard line, a couple of quick completions saw Wendell Sailor findhing his grove with short passes to the TE Herc Kirkby and the WR Quinton Crash before dsitater struck. A fantastic play by the CB Charlie Thorsen took the oppitunity to pick of the Outlaw QB meaning Berlin were able to holt the drive and regain some of that important momentum. Unforunetly they weren't able to capitalise and saw another quick 3 and out.

After the INT on the last drive Arizona were keen to show Berlin just how good they are, a very strong drive with several strong rushes by the ever experaniced and reliable RB Jay Cue Jr. and passes from the QB Wendell Sailor saw Arizone march down the feild before a great play by the longtime Arizona WR Kotoni Staggs saw them score the first points of the game taking a 7 - 0 lead.

A great play on Berlin next posession to stuff a 3rd and 3 by the LB Glenn Smart saw the first sack of the game and 3rd punt of the quater for Berlin. Ariozna started with another methodical drive mixing up the plays with some short passes out wide and runs up the middle, saw Arizone end the first quater on Berlin 25 yard line and were looking dangerous to take a 14 - 0 lead.

Second Quarter

After a strong first quater Arizona were looking to make headway and put this game to be early, finshing off the drive from the previous quater, they were stopped on a 3 and 1 on Berlins 13 yard line by a great pass breakup by the LB Kevin McThumper forced the Outlaws to only take the 3 points and oly take a 10 point lead.

Berlin needed to get points on this drive, a promising drive with some rushes by both of the Berlin RB's Rab Thecrab & Marvin Toledo however some great play by the Arizona defense was up to the task and forced another Berlin punt.

A holding penalty on Arizone first play by the C Dennis Rodman saw Arizone start behind the chain and were forced to a 3 and out, was Berlin defense starting to show up and mkae it hard for the Arizona offence that has had its way so far in this game.

Distaster struck on the next drive for Berlin as the S Tre'Mendus Johnson was able to force a fumble on the WR Maximilian Hamilton after a 45 yard bomb by the QB Bageshwari Singh. This allowed Arizona to start possesion on thier 20 yard line but cruically without conceding any extra points to maintian thier lead. With just over 6mins left on the clock Ariozna were looking to add to thier lead but also run the clock down to deny Berlin a chance to come back before the half ends.

The drive stated off well with some great running by the RB Jay Cue Jr. who was able to run around 4mins off the clock before a sack by the vetern Rocco Blade saw the Arizona drive come to sudden halt on thier own 42 yard line, and so were forced to punt before the 2 min warning, giving Berlin a precious chance to score again before the half. It was a poor punt of onlt yards by Ariozna giving Berlin great feild positon, the 2 min warning and 3 timeouts to score.

They did't not disapoint with some poor defence by Arizona which allowed Berlin to play the sideline saw Berlin march down and find the end zone in under 1min of play with a 7 yard pass to Maximilian Hamilton for the score making up for the fumble earlier on in the half.

Third Quarter

After the half time show, Arizona were up 10 - 7 and would reciver the kickoff, and a great return by Jay Cue Jr. saw he bring the 34 yards from the endzone, a great way for Arizona to start the weekend. However disaster on the next play as the QB Wendell Sailor is sacked by the LB Fred Edison leaving Arizona with a 2-15 to go, two great passes by the QB saw them chew up that yardage with ease. However they were soon stoped by some great tackaling by the LB's Fred Edison & Kevnin McThumper and so Savathûn T. Witchqueen let off a monster punt to back Berlin to the 1 yard line for thier first possesion of the half. A couple of short runs and passes meant that Berlin punted the ball back in quick time, though a 55 yard punt by Known Acquaintance made sure the Arizona 8had the worst of that trade. Then the dagger of the match a 55 yard bomb by Wendell Sailor to Kotoni Staggs gave Arizona a 20 - 7 lead with under 5 mins left of the third quater, Berlin really need to score on this drive to keep the game close.

A very promising drive ensued with Berlin mix the game plan up with several solid rushes by the RB Rab Thecrab and a great 46 yard throw to Octavio Pérez meant that within a short space of time Berlin were on the Arizona 23 yard line when the drive came two a shattered end with a holding penalty (CC Cantrideabike & sack (Akaki Akayre with three plays forced Berlin to punt the Arizona 36 yard line.

An three and out by Arizona saw the third quater end with the score still 20 - 7

Fourth Quarter

Berlin started the 4th quater on their own 7 yard line and had a long way to go if they wanted to win the Ultimus Bowl this season. However unforutnely it was a punt from thier 15 yard line, giving Arizona tiem and space to kill as much of the clock as possible. A great first pass on 1 and 10 for 29 yard moved Arizona to the Berlin 42 yard line and it looked like Arizona were going to fianlly put this game to bed. However they came up short and were only able to kick a FG from the Berlin 17 yard on a 4th and 3. A decison that won them the game come the end.

Berlin next drive loooked like it could have been a 3 and out until a 55 yard pass to Maximilian Hamilton gave Berlin a spark, three plays later they were in the end zone with a 4 yard pass to Octavio Pérez closing the gap to Arizona. Another great 48 yard pass by Wendell Sailor saw the Outlaws flip the field and threnten to undo everything Berlin had just achieved. However the Berlin defence held strong and held Arizona to a FG, this still made the score 23 - 14, a two score game.

Berlin have 2:38 to score twice to win the Ultimus. A very mothedical two min drive by Berlin with timeouts and the sidleines being used saw them score their second TD of the quater with 33s left, again caught by the ever dangerious Octavio Pérez. A failed onside kick meant that Arizona had won thier second Ultimus in two apperance. It was pure jubaliation for Arizona and dissapointment for Berlin.
