Ultimus Bowl XXXVI was an American football game played to determine the champion of the International Simulation Football League (ISFL) for 2051 (S36). The National Simulation Football Conference (NSFC) champions Honolulu Hahalua defeated the American Simulation Football Conference (ASFC) champions Sarasota Sailfish , 31-28. The game was played in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Background

Honolulu Hahalua

The Honolulu Hahalua came off the previous season with an Ultimus victory to their name and were looking to claim back to back rings. They were able to clinch the ASFC with a record of 11 - 5. They were able to keep most of the key elements of last seasons success in the same place and were able to bring in a couple of free agents, namely the RB Goat Tank from Berlin Fire Salamanders as well the Yellowknife Wraiths DE Stewart Hellraiser. They were the reciprocants of a bye in the wildcard round and were easily able to brush aside the Arizona Outlaws 38 - 21 in the conference round.

Sarasota Sailfish

After a poor S35 Sarasota were looking to bounce back and start to build to be a team to be feared. Two strong looking rookies were added to the team, the DE Harley Andrews and the LB Justin Cloud. The season started strongly with Sarasota winning 6 of their first 8 games, then finished the season even more strongly winning their last 5 games heading into the playoffs. However this later run of form wasn't able to give them the No.1 seed as they finished in second place behind the Chicago Butchers with a 12 - 3 record. A great win in NSFC championship round, saw them beat the Chicago Butchers 22 - 3 to book their place in the Ultimus.

Game summary

First Quarter

The toss was won by Honolulu Hahalua who deferred. A poor kickoff by Freddy Bly of 64 yards into the to the 1 yard line was returned by the electric return man / wide out Nick Kaepercolin Jr. for 35 yards, meaning Sarasota Sailfish had a great starting field position from the 36 yard line. A great first pass for 8 yards by the QB Carter Knight to the veteran WR Saleem Spence meant it was looking promising, on a second and short the run was stuffed for a loss by a great play the LB Xavier Walls. Things then went from bad to worse Sarasota Sailfish when Carter Knight was picked off by the Safety Eleven Kendrick-Watts for a 16 yard return, meaning that Honolulu Hahalua started there first drive from the Sarasota's 36 yard line.

A good strong run up the gut for 5 yards by Buffalo Hunter gave them good field position with a FG as the minimum. However the QB Dexter Zaylren with his first pass of the game would find, who else but, Buffalo Hunter for a 31 yard TD, giving Honolulu Hahalua a 7 - 0 lead.

Template:TF could do with a good reply to regain some momentum. However a disastrous replying drive, saw a sack on the first play by Big Slammu record an 11 yard loss followed on a 3rd and 17 with Carter Knight second interception of the game on his 4th pass of the game, with the veteran CB Lip Gallagher making the play.

The stunned silence from the Sarasota Sailfish supporters was very telling. ISFL started again in amazing field position on the Sarasota Sailfish 31 yard line, ISFL could really do wit a big play here. So good defense forced a 4th and 9 for a 47 yard FG which was missed by Freddy Bly was all the {{tf|SAR]] could have hoped for.

However the offence woes continued for Sarasota Sailfish with two more sacks coming on the next to play one for a 5 yard loss by Eleven Kendrick-Watts & the second for a 7 yard loss by Xavier Walls meaning Sarasota were looking at a 3 and 23 just to keep the drive alive. They were only able to make a 6 yard check down pass to Nick Kaepercolin Jr.. A great 62 yard punt by Swantavius King pinned Honolulu on their 6 yard line.

A very methodical drive by the Honolulu Hahalua offence saw the ball being spread around the WR and RB, for short plays, quickly moving the ball up toward the Sarasota end zone again. The fist quarter came to the end with the Honolulu Hahalua on a 3rd and 7 at the Sarasota Sailfish 36 yard line.
