Tyler Genis (born December 15, 1999) is an American football cornerback who is currently unsigned by a professional team. He played college football for Fresno State before being drafted by the S18 in the 2033 ISFL Draft (S18).

Early years

Although born in San Francisco, Tyler Genis moved to central California at the age of 14. Throughout his high school football career, Tyler specialized as a defensive end where he flourished despite his slender frame. Tyler attributes his high skill level at the position from his training he gained as a wrestler during the winter season, learning proper leverage and body mechanics. Although his agility was a valuable asset, he did not perform considerable well on the offense as a wide receiver due to his poor catching ability which he always blamed on his nerves. Thankfully, when he was recruited to Fresno State, the coaching staff were able to bring out Tyler's full potential as a press man to man corner who could beat players at the line and limit separation.

College career

Freshman year 2015: Tyler did not start but was utilized in short yardage situations. Tyler collected 24 tackles and only allowed 6 catches to his receivers out of 19 pass attempts (31% completion percentage).

Sophomore year 2016: The following year, Tyler earned a starting position where he collected 38 tackles. Although he did not have an interception, he collected an impressive 18 pass deflections and receivers had a 33% completion percentage against him.

Junior year 2017: This was Tyler's breakout year where he collected 42 tackles and 20 pass deflections with 28% completion percentage by receivers. Although he was a cornerback, Tyler was able to collect 6 tackles for loss which were accrued the first half of the season from screen pass attempted from the opposing teams (teams soon learned to avoid screen passes to Tyler's side of the field the second half of the season so his states started to diminished due to this). Near the end of the season, Tyler was also able to finally get the monkey off his back and get his first college career interception, finishing with 1.

Senior year 2018: Tyler's play continued to progress, and he collected 48 tackles, 26 pass deflections, and a 27% completion percentage against receivers. Once was not able to get an interception during the season despite playing the most percentage of snaps in his career.

Tyler also had an off field issue that could potentially hamper his draft stock. After a tough loss in the Mountain West championship against Boise, Tyler had an interview where he quoted saying "I did my job, i'm sure the rest of my team did their best but it just didn't happen." The reported then commented that he did not seem too upset at the loss, which Tyler replied "At the end of the day it's just a game, don't get me wrong I want to win, but I don't get too emotionally invested in this sport." While many college prospects have attitude concerns and trouble controlling their emotions, there is something to be said about the concerns of an apathetic player as well, and if they will have the drive to be a winner. It is yet to be seen if this will affect his draft value.
