Thorian Johannes Skarsgard (born September 13, 2000) is a retired American football defensive tackle who formerly played for the Orange County Otters and Chicago Butchers of the National Simulation Football League (NSFL). He played college football for Rutgers University before being drafted by the Orange County Otters in the 2027 ISFL Draft (S12). Prior to this, he had been drafted by the Tijuana Luchadores in the 2026 DSFL Draft (S11).

Early years

Thorian was born on September 13th, 2000 to parents Svarre and Anna Skarsgard. He was always large for his age, and excelled athletically from the time he was young. As with most Norweigan youth that are athletically inclined, he played hockey throughout high school. He was his team's star defenseman and won two national championships, but was permanently banned from the team his senior year because of numerous suspensions due to illegal hits and multiple fighting majors. Needing to find an outlet for his teenage aggression, he began to play rugby, which at the time was a growing sport in Norway. When his parents moved to the United States for his father's job, he ended up enrolling at Rutgers University.

College career

Upon enrolling at Rutgers, Thorian initially signed on to play for the university's intramural rugby team. While at practice one day during his freshman year, the football team's linebackers coach happened to notice him and suggested that he try walking on to the team. Beginning in his sophomore season, he immediately became the team's starting middle linebacker due mostly to his tenacity and incredible work ethic. After starting at middle linebacker for three consecutive seasons and setting numerous records at Rutgers including most career tackles and most career forced fumbles, he announced that he would be applying for the 2026 DSFL Draft.

Tijuana Luchadores (2026-2027)

Skarsgard was drafted in the second round, eighth overall, during the 2026 DSFL Draft. He was considered by many to be one of the top defensive selections available, as he was the third linebacker selected and sixth defensive player selected overall. Skarsgard immediately made a name for himself on the field, becoming known as one of the fiercest tacklers in the entire DSFL. He finished his rookie campaign tied for fourth in the league in tackles, second in sacks, and eighth in pass deflections. His overall defensive play in his first season with the Luchadores earned him multiple nominations for Linebacker of the Year, but the award was ultimately won by fellow rookie, Charlie Trout. The Luchadores however would go just 5-9 during the regular season, sneaking into the playoffs against the heavily favored 9-5 San Antonio Marshals. The Luchadores would upset the Marshals 31-20, scoring three touchdowns in the second quarter. They would advance to the Ultimini game and have to face the league's' best team, the 13-1 Portland Pythons. In a hard fought defensive game, the Pythons would pull out the victory 13-6, sending Skarsgard and his Luchadores teammates back to Tijuana empty handed despite Thorian setting the Luchadores all-time record for tackles in a playoff game at 15. Over the offseason, being eligible to be selected in the NSFL Draft, he was taken in the first round, sixth overall by the Orange County Otters. Wanting to prove that he could help the already extremely talented Otters defensive unit, he approached the 2027 season with a renewed intensity. During preseason, his standout play as a rookie earned him being selected as one of Tijuana's defensive captains. The Luchadores would have a better showing during the regular season, due heavily in part to the play of the defense. They would finish the season 9-5, allowing the second fewest points in the league. Once again, Skarsgard's standout play came to the forefront, as he finished the season third in the league in tackles and tied for first in sacks. In a cruel twist of fate, his Luchadores would lose to the Marshals in their first playoff game, 13-7, but Skarsgard would go on to win Linebacker of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, and co-DSFL MVP. This incredible success would launch him into the spotlight, and earn him the call up to the Otters that he had been hoping for.

Orange County Otters (2028-2035)

Skarsgard would come into his first offseason with the Otters excited for the chance to play at the next level. The only problem was that the team was already set at linebacker, being anchored by future Hall of Famer Mason Brown. Then GM of the Otters, Spec U. LaDora, came up with a radical solution. Skarsgard began a heavy eating regiment, sometimes consuming multiple value meals from McDonald's in one sitting. By the time the preseason was ready to begin, Thorian had put on 45 lbs and was set to take the spot of team legend Angus Winchester, a defensive tackle who had just recently retired. Set to play at a new position for the first time in his short football career, Skarsgard was nervous that he would have trouble acclimating to the role. Nothing could have been farther from the truth. During his tenure with the Otters the team would never miss the playoffs, and go on to win four Ultimus trophies. Skarsgard would win two Defensive Lineman of the Year awards while racking up 77 career sacks. He was known as one of the fiercest pass rushers in the league, and became a keystone of the powerful Otters defense that would become known as the "Fanta Curtain". Along with Brown at middle linebacker, Danny Grithead at safety and Jaylon Broxton at cornerback, the Otters defensive unit was one of the league's best over Skarsgard's eight seasons with the team. Halfway through the 2035 season, with new Otters management fearing Skarsgard may leave the team in free agency, he was traded to the Chicago Butchers.

Chicago Butchers (2035-2037)

Skarsgard played the last four games of the 2035 season with Chicago, and rebounded back well from what had been a slow final season with Orange County. Chicago was an incredibly young team with an inexperienced management group, and although the trade for a defensive lineman heading into his mid thirties seemed like a laughable move to some outside of the organization, the acquisition of Skarsgard brought leadership and toughness to a defense that needed both. After the trade, he immediately signed a three year, $20 million extension, a move also widely panned by critics around the league. In the one full season Thorian played in Chicago, he set a new career high in tackles for loss (4) and forced fumbles (2). The most notable effect Skarsgard had on the Butchers was his stand against the NSFL Head Office when they tried to insert their own candidate as General Manager after Chicago's entire management team stepped down mid season. He, along with quarterback Rose Jenkins, rallied the team to select Bayley Island and Moof Ford as the new management team, setting Chicago well on its way to a rebuild the franchise desperately needed. Heading into the 2037 season, Skarsgard still had two years left on the contract he signed when the Butchers acquired him. The new front office, realizing that Skarsgard could have greater success elsewhere and acquire much need draft picks for the Butchers in the process, traded him back to Orange County, just two seasons after he was originally dealt. Skarsgard new his career would soon be coming to a close and wanted to do everything possible to send his new team out on top.

Return to Orange County (2037-2038)

Skarsgard would rejoin the Otters for the final four games of the regular season, just in time to get warmed up for the playoffs. He hadn't played in a playoff game since 2034, his last full season in an Otters uniform. It seems that Thorian found some of that old magic upon returning to his new team, as he would record two tackles for loss and two sacks (one ending in a safety) over three playoff games. Unluckily, his homecoming was spoiled in the Ultimus as the Colorado Yeti would rally from being down eighteen points near the end of the third quarter to beat the Otters 25-24. Afterwards, Skarsgard was seen sitting in front of his locker with a towel over his head. He declined to speak to the media during postgame interviews.
