Stevie Vassallo (born November 21, 2012) is an American football defensive end who is currently unsigned by a professional team. He played college football for University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and has declared his intent to enter the professional ranks next season.

Early years

Stevie Vassallo, was born in Hamrun, Malta, to parents Iggy and Linda Vassallo, a shoemaker and a waitress. Stevie attended San Ġorġ Preca College for high school where he was a star rugby player. Stevie was the youngest of three children, Dani Vassallo, 29 , famous author of the novel, ""I ain't yo bitch"", and Tim Vassallo, 25, a pro wrestler. Stevie was always a huge fan of american movies to which he attributes his fluency in English.

After a youtube video showcasing Stevie's athleticism on the Rugby pitch went viral and caught the eye of UCLA scout Randy McHammerstein, who saw the potential to convert Stevie into a Football Player. Stevie was offered a full scholarship to UCLA and moved to Los Angeles on his own.

Stevie is proud of his Maltese heritage and hopes to encourage more Maltese and European children to play american football. Stevie has been quoted saying he would like to build a football pitch at his highschool to help realize his dream.

College career

Vassallo, having never played a football game in his life took a redshirt year to get a crash course in the game.

Freshman Season During his redshirt freshman season, Vassallo appeared in 5 games, recording 4 sacks and 9 tackles in a limited role. Vassallo worked hard during the off-season gaining 40 pounds and returning for his sophmore year it his self-proclaimed best shape of his life.

Sophmore Season Vassallo really broke out in his sophmore season quickly being a fan favourite, during his 12 games, Vassallo accumulated 63 total tackles, 22 for a loss, and 20 sacks leading UCLA to the PAC-12 Championship. Coach Bob Boucher credited much of the win to the defensive line of which Vassallo was a major part.

Junior Season Vassallo joined UCLA for camp before being approached by the DSFL, after a draft with very few defensive players, Vassallo was given special status and allowed to bypass the draft and entire the league waiver system.
