Shepherd Marshall (born May 1, 1996) is an American football linebacker for the Norfolk Seawolves of the National Simulation Football League (NSFL). He played college football for New Mexico (NM) before being picked up on waivers by the Seawolves. He was drafted by the Baltimore Ballhawks in the 2036 ISFL Draft (S21) but was sent back down to the Seawolves for the 2037 (S22) season.

Early years

Shepherd Marshall was born and raised in the Truth or Consequences, New Mexico area. Though the professional wrestler Mick Foley was not actually from the same town, his character in professional wrestling was and this inspired Marshall to follow in his footsteps. Marshall didn't understand the concept of kayfabe until he was in college, so he thought he one day could be just like Foley since they, in his mind, came from the same town. Despite throwing himself into several tables as a child and eventually setting barbwire-wrapped tables on fire as a teenager and throwing himself through them, Marshall was disappointed when the WWE wouldn't respond to the home videos he sent the company. After mostly giving up on that dream, he focused on his other love, football. He was an avid fan of the Chicago Bears NFL team thanks to the fact Brian Urlacher was also from his home state of New Mexico, he chose to play for the New Mexico Lobos in college.

College career

Like his idol Brian Urlacher, Marshall went to New Mexico to play football. After three strong seasons and leading the teams in sacks and tackles his junior year, Marshall hired an agent, Alex Vance, and pursued a path to professional football. However, he got lost in the Chihuahuan Desert of southern New Mexico after visiting the Carlsbad Caverns in Carlsbad, NM. Despite not having anything but a water bottle he bought at the canteen in the national park, Marshall survived for 8 full weeks in the desert.

Marshall claimed to survive on nothing but water gathered from cacti and the meat of rattlesnakes. Though there is no proof, Marshall said he would get on his belly and sneak up behind the snakes, hissing and slithering 'like a real snake', he said. And the end of his journey, he had wandered down to El Paso, Texas, while somehow missing any major roads or human habitation. "I don't know, man, I just followed my instincts, but apparently they're terrible navigators," Marshall said.

Despite not being drafted or picked up by a professional team, Marshall was unable to return to simply return to college because he had hired an agent. It was a real shame considering his then-agent, Vance, had laughed hysterically in front of the press at the NSFL Combine when the news of Marshall being lost in the desert was first announced. Over tears of joy, Vance said: "I hope he's dead."

When he learned of this, Marshall vowed to seek vengeance on Vance and every player he represented, in particular, Rick Skuff. After his vow, Marshall decided to represent himself and looked to the DSFL for his first professional team.

He would finish his abbreviated rookie season with 32 tackles in six games.
