Rick Richard Skuff (born November 19, 1999) is an American football runningback for the Minnesota Grey Ducks of the Developmental Simulation Football League (DSFL). He played college football for Davidson College and has declared his intent to enter the professional ranks next season.

Early years

Rick Skuff was born in Oakey's Holler, West Virginia, to Annabelle and Jonathan Skuff, on the family farm. He is the third of five brothers (Jonathan Jr., Jonathan III, Rick, Dick, Cooper), and also has three younger sisters (Annabelle Jr. Crystal, Mercedes). Jethro White Consoidated, Skuff's high school, did not have the enrollment necessary to field a football team so he focused on his studies in applied chemistry and working on the family barley farm. Years of hauling crops left Rick with exceptional strength and practice running from minor misunderstandings with the police helped him hone his speed. Side projects on the farm left Skuff with a keen interest in chemistry, which he used to separate himself from the other dozen students in his high school and earn a coveted scholarship from the Appalacian Chemistry Society.

College career

Attending Davidson College on a chemistry scholarship, Skuff was recruited to the football team after the coach witnessed him hauling two kegs, one over each shoulder, across campus. It took some time for Skuff to learn the game of football, but by mid season he was receiving more than just goal line work and put together an impressive breakout game with 100 yard, 2 TD game in the FCS quarterfinals. He finished the year with 540 yards on 110 carries, with 7 TDs. Skuff entered his sophomore season as the starter and put up an impressive 1156 yards with 17 total TDs, including a huge 170 yard, 3 TD game against rival College of Charleston. Davidson would repeat their trip to the playoffs but lose in the first round. The coaching staff was excited to continue to work with Skuff and improve upon his fundamentals, especially in the receiving game, however it was not meant to be, as laboratory usage issues led to him being kicked out of the university. Skuff took one year off of football and returned to the farm, but later decided to enter his name into the DSFL waiver wire.

Early in season 21 Rick Skuff's story was picked up by the press, putting him on the radar of the DSFL. The Minnesota Grey Ducks called him in for a workout after Week 3 and were so impressed at what they saw that they signed him immediately off of the waivers. The team did not have a pressing need at the position but knew fresh legs never hurt.

Skuff started the season in a RBBC, headlined by Baby Yoda, with Skuff, McMaster and Brehio all receiving roughly equal work. Skuff and Brehio edged separated themselves from McMaster as the season wore on, leading to slightly less crowded running back room.

With the multitude of options the Ducks had in the backfield the decision was made to primarily line Skuff up in the fullback position, where he started in relevant formations for the latter half of the season while still taking occasional snaps at half back.

After finding the end zone in his first two games, Skuff cooled down a bit, only scoring one more time in the season, in a rout of the Coyotes. He continued to contribute on the ground, however, logging rushes in each game with several games of 5+ attempts.

Skuff encountered some controversey in week 7 matchup against Norfolk, when a newly signed player for the Seawolves, Shepherd Marshall, got into an altercation with Skuff on the sideline following a run out of bounds. The two players had to be separated and attempted to continue the scuffle after the game. After taking shots at each other on social media in the weeks preceding their end-of-season rematch Skuff had an uncharacteristically quiet game, logging only two rushes.

When called upon in the DSFL semifinals against the Coyotes Skuff delivered, ripping off 60 yards and a TD on 8 carries, his third successful game of the year against Kansas City. In the Ultimini Skuff was tapped less for touches but still toted the rock six times for 21 yards.

In the weeks leading up to the S22 NSFL draft Skuff interviewed with several teams, but kept tight lips when asked who he hoped would take him. He seemed very satisfied, though, when in the 5th round his name was called by the Baltimore Hawks.
