Quinn Hughes (born April 18, 1999) is an American football safety who is currently unsigned by a professional team. He played college football for University of Arizona (UoA) and has declared his intent to enter the professional ranks next season.

Early years

"Quinn was born in the great country of Canada, on April 18th, 1999. His father was a physician in the local hospital and his mother was an amatuer hockey player. Quinn grew up playing hockey before falling in love with the sport of football after watching an XFL game. Quinn dominated in his early years in track and field, and his parents seeing the potential, had him move in with his uncle in Arizona to attend St. Thomas Aquinas highschool. Quinn played wide receiver and cornerback at St. Thomas, where he dominated the opposition with his speed and agility. Able to stretch a field as a wideout, and stay with any of the opposition's streaky receivers at corner, Quinn dominated as a physical specimen. Arguably Quinn’s greatest success came off the field, where he was a consistent member of the Dean’s list. Quinn’s biggest weakness in highschool was his lack of experience in the game. Many other kids grew up watching football, but Quinn had only been playing for 3 years prior to coming to Arizona. His rawness on the field was tempered by the coaches he worked with, and with time Quinn began picking up some of the finer details of the game. Quinn’s football IQ grew exponentially in highschool, and he was quickly scouted and later picked up by the University of Arizona

"

College career

"Quinn was transitioned to safety early into his college career. His football IQ and ability to read a QB were much better utilised from the strong safety position. Quinn learned from the great college defensive coordinator, Tom Lady, about the nuances of positioning and poise. Never showing his hand too early, Quinn preyed upon offenses that looked to throw to the first available receiver. With sneaky athleticism and an understanding of where to be, Quinn made a name for himself off of his frequent turnovers. When teams stopped throwing his way in a cover 2, Tom Lady would switch his defence in a cover 3, forcing the quarterback to always need to keep an eye on where the speedy young strong safety was going. Eventually Quinn would run into teams that would pound the run, and so he adapted. Learning to tackle and to force fumbles, Quinn became a dual threat that could cover the deep end of the field, but also come up to support the line in stopping the runn. Quinn’s college career was a successful one, and now he is looking to make a name for himself in the S(21) DSFL draft. "

Professional career

Quinn’s professional career started after being drafted in the 5th round of the DSFL entry draft by the London Royals. The season as a whole was a losing one, but Quinn managed a few heroic performances, especially in his first game. Likely the performance of the year, Quinn managed a pick 6 on his very first play as a professional football player. Sparking an early 7-0 lead, Quinn carried his team to their first victory as a franchise, with multiple sacks, a safety, and many tackles, against their league counterpart, The Dallas Birddogs. In their second win against the Grey Ducks, Quinn again managed another interception and 12 tackles, winning defensive player of the game again. Quinn ended the season tied for 3rd in interceptions and tied for second in terms of force fumbles. Quinn ended the season as one of two major defensive leaders on the London Royals, and received multiple game balls over the course of the season. While Quinn was unable to attain playoffs for himself, he did gain valuable experience. Most important of all, he affirmed to himself that he is more than capable of playing with the professionals. With plenty of interest from scouts before the season had even ended, Quinn is postured to go early in the NSFL draft. A lock to go before the third round, and a likely candidate to go in the second, Quinn has drastically improved his draft capital from his time as a DSFL draft candidate. Overall, Quinn had a good season and will look to be a key piece as a day 1 starter for whichever NSFL team chooses to draft him
