Pecker Cox (born January 13, 1996) is an American football safety for the Portland Pythons of the Developmental Simulation Football League (DSFL). He played college football for Mississippi State University and has declared his intent to enter the professional ranks next season.

Early years

Pecker Cox was born in Yazoo City, MS to Melissa Cox-Bright. He had one older brother, Shaddrick, with whom he was very close with. He played High School football at Yazoo City High School and was also a member of the track and field team where he ranked top 10 in the state for the long jump and high jump. Upon graduating, Cox turned down scholarship offers from LSU, Alabama, and Ole Miss to accept and full scholarship to Mississippi State Univerity.

College career

As a true frehsman, Cox saw limited action in his 12 games played. He totaled 29 tackles on the season but did makes four tackles for a loss and one and a half sacks. His sophomore season was a similar respect, this time he tallied 36 tackles, with 7 tackles for a loss and two and a half sacks. Fletcher did miss two games that season after the loss of his brother, Shaddrick. An avid car junkie, Shaddrick suffered a massive heart attack while out shopping for a new car and did not make it. Shaddrick had been the father figure for Pecker his entire life and many lessons he had taught him helped shape him into the player he was up until that point. Moving forward, Pecker would initiate in a new pregame tradition where he would place a Mississippi State jersey with his brother's name on it on the bench. His junior year finally saw Cox get a consistent amount of playing time and his numbers showed a direct improvement. He tallied 56 tackles, with 14.5 tackles for a loss and eight sacks. He was named to the Second team All-American and declared for the NSFL draft, deciding to skip his senior season.
