Nick Jr. has a younger brother named Max, but he is much less interested in football. Nick, on the other hand, realized early on that he wanted to follow in his father's footsteps, and he began playing football as a young child and was encouraged by his father through hard training. Kaepercolin Jr. also started as a QB, but he switched to the RB position after a short time, for which the young German was clearly more talented. He played high school football for the Blue Devils football team and rushed for more than 1000 yards and 15 touchdowns in his junior year. In his senior year, he even put 2337 yards on the ground and scored 28 touchdowns.

In the end, he decided to play for the Blue Mountain State. In his first year, Kaepercolin Jr. wasn't used too much, but he was already showing his talent. In 7 games played, he got 40 attempts where he gained 277 yards and scored 4 TDs. As a sophomore, he already got way more playing time and he finished the season with more than 500 yards and 8 TDs. The team went to the championship game, where Kaepercolin couldn't play because of an injury and the BMS lost that game. In his junior year, Kaepercolin was the main weapon in the offense. He rushed for 743 yards and 13 TDs, while also adding more than 300 yards and 3 TDs through the air.
