Early years

Born in Washington, DC. Introduced to football at a young age playing pickup games of tackle on the National Mall. Was always large for his age, which guided him to playing as a lineman. Developed a knack for sacking quarterbacks while playing peewee, and has stuck with the defensive line ever since.

Maxwell Beard was born to Maximus and Sheila Beard in Washington, DC. Beard livde in the DC area his entire life while his parents worked for the US Government.

Growing up in a very urban community, Beard learned the importance of playing Offensive and Defensive line early as it was important to keep his own quarterback from getting sacked into the pavement, but also the importance of putting the other teams QB into the pavement.

Kavran would end up attending North Capitol Heights High School.

College career

Beard committed to the University of Delaware late in his senior year of high school after being passed on by the major D1 schools due to disciplinary issues. Beard made 2 appearances his Freshman season, making 1 tackle-for-loss in an 8-2 season ending with a loss in the first round of the FCS playoffs. He was quickly identified as a leader and was voted defensive captain early before his Sophomore season. He earned a starting role prior to his sophomore season, making 9 starts and compiling 4.5 sacks. The team finished the year again at 8-2, once again exiting the FCS playoffs in the first round. Made 2 starts in junior year registering 3 sacks before leaving the 2nd game of the season with a torn ACL. He spent the offseason rehabbing and training, and returned for his senior season, starting all 11 games and recording 16 sacks. Graduated with a 3.9 GPA with a degree in macroeconomics.
