Career highlights and awards

Mathias Hanyadi (born November 1st, 2011) was an American football running back for the Yellowknife Wraiths of the National Simulation Football League (NSFL). He played college football for University of Massachusetts (UMass) before being drafted by the San Antonio Marshals in the 2032 DSFL Draft (S17) and the Yellowknife Wraiths in the 2033 ISFL Draft (S18).

Early years

Mathias Hanyadi was born on November 1st, 2011 to Giovanni Hanyadi and Ciara Hanyadi. He lived in Boston his entire life as a kid, and played baseball all throughout grade school and middle school. He switched sports to football in his sophomore year of highschool, walking onto the team as the 4th string runningback. He quickly shot up the depth chart, becoming the starting runningback for both his junior and senior campaigns. He broke the school record for rushing touchdowns and rushing yards in a season during his senior year, which was enough for him to get several football scholarships to various schools. He chose UMass, out of a desire to stay close to his ailing father and the rest of his family.

College career

Mathias played all four years for the UMass Minutemen, and was the starting runningback for three of those seasons. His freshman year, he was once again low on the depth chart, being the fifth string runningback behind some high tier talent. In his freshman season, Hanyadi only started during one game, yet that one game was an impressive performance. In Game 7 of the season, playing against BYU, Hanyadi managed to rack up 221 rushing yards on thirty carries for three touchdowns, leading the Minutemen to a 35-24 victory over the Cougars. He received the Most Improved Player award from the team, and for the next three seasons, he was the starting running back for the Minutemen. His crowning achievment was leading the Minutemen to a victory over Michigan State in the Orange Bowl, rushing for 156 yards on 29 carries for two touchdowns for the school's first bowl win in decades.

Mathias Hanyadi was selected 33rd overall by the San Antonio Marshals during the 2032 DSFL Draft (S17). Many experts considered Hanyadi to be the steal of the draft, wondering how he could have fallen into San Antonio's laps after so many other running backs and receivers were taken. Hanyadi has had several standout games during the season, including a 158 yard game against the Kansas City Coyotes, scoring two touchdowns during the game. He also recorded 190 yards on 36 carries, scoring two more touchdowns in a Week 7 game against the Norfolk Seawolves. Hanyadi was considered as one of the best rookie running backs in the class, and was rumored to be leading in polls for Offensive Rookie of the Year.

NSFL career

The Yellowknife Wraiths drafted Hanyadi 17th overall in the 2033 ISFL Draft (S18). He was sent down for one more season since Yellowknife still had Marshall and Canton on their roster. After his second season in San Antonio, Yellowknife called Hanyadi and Drake up to the main roster to create the next two-headed monster of the NSFL. Hanyadi had a decent rookie campaign, recording over 1200 all purpose yards and scoring 13 times, tied for most in the NSFL in 2034 (S19).

In 2035 (S20), Hanyadi rushed for 1100 yards and had 400 receiving yards on top of that. He also scored a total of 15 times, which was the most in the league. This performance was enough for him to earn Running Back of the Year as well as Offensive Player of the Year awards

2036 (S21)

After his breakout year in Season 20, Hanyadi, as well as the Wraiths in general, had a relatively quiet season. The team finished 7-6, with particularly bad losses to Baltimore, San Jose and Arizona. However, key wins later in the season such as beating Baltimore at home, defeating New Orleans as the away team and taking down the Copperheads allowed Yellowknife to squeak into the playoffs in the wildcard spot. Hanyadi had a relatively quiet playoff run, not scoring a single touchdown, though he did manage to get at least 100 yards from scrimmage every game. Overall, the season was pretty pedestrian for Hanyadi, clocking in at just short of 1600 all purpose yards with 8 total touchdowns on top of that. This was enough to earn a nod for the pro bowl as well as a nomination for Running Back of the Year.

2037 (S22)

After a pretty boring Season 21, Hanyadi exploded out of the gate in Season 22. Yellowknife cruised to an 11-2 record, partially due to a relatively weak NSFC besides Colorado and Philadelphia, and Hanyadi ran all over the league with monstrous efficiency. For three weeks straight (Weeks 5, 6 and 7), Hanyadi eclipsed over 150 yards of offense in every game he played. In a Week 5 clash with the Liberty, Hanyadi nearly eclipsed 200 yards on the day in a heroic effort to keep Yellowknife in the game. The playoff hopes of the Wraiths were squashed, however, with the Yeti managing to win by one point to go to the Ultimus, where they would defeat the Otters with a 22 point comeback. Despite the short playoff run, Hanyadi had an absolutely monstrous season, scoring 11 total touchdowns and over 1700 all purpose yards on the season. After another season of dominance, Hanyadi is considered by many to be the best running back currently in the NSFL.

2038 (S23)

An early exit in the playoffs did not slow Hanyadi down at all. After a brief stint in Free Agency, he resigned with Yellowknife on an extremely team friendly deal. Despite several indications pointing to him leaving, he defied expectations, despite supposedly tempting offers from Orange County and Chicago. With the advent of the 16 game season, something the league has been debating about for years, many experts wondered what would happen in terms of offensive production across the league. Hanyadi had a relatively slow start to the season, going over or near a hundred yards from scrimmage in 3 of his first four games. His season really began to take off in a Week 10 routing of the Hahalua, with Hanyadi scoring three times on the ground and one time through the air. He would not slow down after that game, scoring in every single game after that up until Weeks 15 and 16, where the team as a whole stalled against Philadelphia and Colorado. After those back to back loses, Yellowknife would lose potential home field advantage and the Regular Season Champion title to Orange County, who had dominated the ASFC once again. Hanyadi and the Wraiths scraped by Colorado in the NSFC Championship, 10-13, and Austin managed to run the table and defeat both New Orleans and Orange County, setting up a rematch of the Season 20 Ultimus. This time, however, the Wraiths were able to fend off the Copperheads in a 38-13 effort, giving Yellowknife their second ring as a franchise and Hanyadi his first. Several key offensive players including Bender B. Rodriguez, Cooter Bigsby and Nate Swift would end up either leaving or retiring, but Hanyadi is supposedly working on another extension with the Wraiths.
