Career highlights and awards

Mark Goodhead (born August 14, 1995) is an American football tight end who is currently preparing to enter the professional ranks. He played college football for Southern Methodist University (SMU) and has declared his intent to enter the professional ranks next season.

Background

Early years

Mark was born to an English Army officer, Lt. Col Wayne Goodhead and American mother Slyphrena Caprica , in the heart of rural England. His parents were unfortunately a pair of ships to pass in the night. Mark & his mother returning to the US soon after his birth. The relationship between his mother and father was never sour and Mark spent many an enjoyable holidays in the UK with his dad. He spent the first 9 years of his life in America with his mother side of the family. Mark always had a love for American football from a young age having been taken to many an event with his mother & step-dad, and always aspired to follow in the footsteps of the great players in the ISFL. Unfortunately, at the age of 9 his mother & step-father, were killed in a road traffic accident. He returned to his place of birth to live with his father. His father, as part of his military perks, was able to enter Mark into the English boarding school system. Due to his father forever changing work deployments he never settled in any given school. At the age of 11, his school jumping stop and he settled in a boarding school in rural England. Unfortunately, being in a English private school, pursuing a career in the sport looked unachievable. Mark was a gifted sportsman at school, playing 1st XI football & rugby and captaining the school 1st XI cricket team. He dedicated himself to any sport that he partook in. After finishing sixth form he applied to and study Mechanical Engineering in America.

College career

Mark applied to many an American collage to study Mechanical Engineering, eventually he decided to join Southern Methodist Uni. At SMU, Mark took the opportunity to finally play American football. Having never really played properly, Mark had no idea which position he was best suited at. During his freshman year at SMU he never saw any game time and swapped into several position, notably the time he tried punting, many teammates will look back at the moment and remember his red face as his foot totally misses the ball during practice, since then he's left kicking to those with an eye for a ball. Nearing the end of the year, and with a lot of hard work from both himself and the coaching staff Mark ended up playing tight end. As his time in collage progressed both Marks confidence and ability increased, leading to him becoming a regular starter during his second year at SMU. During his final year at SMU, he became a team captain and was instrumental in leading the team to a series of outstanding wins against several rival & a bowl win. During the post win celebration of the Bowl win, Mark knew that his time of playing American football had only just started.

Draft Night

Mark was selected by the Portland Pythons as the 28th pick in the S30 DSFL draft in the 4th round. He was the second TE taken during the draft.

Professional Career

DSFL Career

S30

Mark was the number 1 TE for the Portland Pythons in his rookie year. He contributed well throughout his season, never really setting the field ablaze with his play but was all ways solid on the field. He was well unlisted in both the pass and the run games, with Portland multiple QB & RB scheme. He was able to find the End Zone on two occasions in his rookie year. Hopefully his first off-season will be a top opportunity for him to progress and reach the heights that he has shown he can make.

Come draft night, Mark was excited to find out where he would be spending the first part of his professional career in the ISFL. With the 4th pick in the second round he was selected by NOLA.

S31

During his 2nd year for the Portland Pythons, Mark took a more active role in the offence lead by the QB Wendel Sailor & their star wide receiver Tay Swizzle. Having learnt from his rookie campaign he was able to improve significantly on his route running as well as blocking in the run game. Mark was to have a breakthrough season for Portland. He was able to find the endzone 9 times throughout the course of the season, whilst racking up more than 800 yards at an average of 11.4 yards per reception. However, the season for Portland didn't go fully to plan finishing with a record of 6-7-1 which resulted in an early exit and no appearance in the playoffs this time round. This left a sour taste in Mark's mouth and he would certainty be back in the DSFL next season for another run at the Ultimini and immortally glory.

S32

Heading into his third season with the Portland Pythons, Mark now became the leading target for his Quaterback Wendel Sailor. Having just missed the playoff in the previous season Mark was keen to help take Portland back their. Mark had another great season as the leading target, setting a new career high of just three yards short of 900 yards (897) but on far fewer targets only 55, setting a very strong 16.2 yards per recpetion. mark was able to find the endzone another 8 times this season putting his total upto 21, a 3rd place overall (At the time) for Touchdowns in Portland's History. By the end of the season Portland had a very impressive season ending 11-3 and reaching the playoff. In the Conferance championship, the Pythons easily beat Minnesota GreyDucks with Mark securing his first post season TD. in the Ultimini final the Portland Pythond ended up facing Norfolk Sea Wolves. However they fell agonizingly short losing 26-22. At the end of the season Mark got the call up to the ISFL and was more than ready to join NOLA.

ISFL Career

S33

With the call up to NOLA this season, Mark switched positions once again. Now becoming a cornerback. This switch is quite a large difference from his previous seasons in the DSFL as a TE. As NOLA are in the early stage of a rebuild, his first season as a CB saw he becomes the team No.1 and leading the defense. Over the course of the season, Mark played valiantly, however due to the team circumstances the overwhelming play by the opponents led to some hard matches throughout the season. Personally Mark had a solid season, recording a grand total of 95 tackles, not to bad for a rookie. In addition to those tackles he was able to deflect a 95 passes. Somehow, Mark didn't record a single interception over the course of the entire season, how he achieved this rare and quite spectacular feet, it will never been know. NOLA ended up finishing 3 - 13 and thus ended up with the 1OA pick in the next draft, and hope to build a strong foundation for the seasons to come. This is a ethos Mark hope to take through the offseason and re-fine his play to have a stronger season next.

S34

Having got his rookie season under his belt in the ISFL, Mark was really able to push on with his development and finally take a leadership role in the NOLA defense. Now the full on CB1 for NOLA, Mark was looking to lead from the front and bring the NOLA defense to be feared by all teams in the ISFL. Building from a rookie without a single INT, Mark was looking to break that duck as soon as possible, it only took 2 game to get his first INT, picking off K.Oles Jr. By the end of the season he ended up with 3 INT, by no means a good hall but certainly heading in the right direction. However, the season would be classed as a strong season, with a solid 95 tackles with 33 PD's, with a few more INT's that could very well have been a top season pushing for All-pro and pro-bowl selections. NOLA were able to make an appearance in the post-season and were unfortunately beaten by a better team (Arizona) though this is extremely valuable experience that will need to be taken forward over the next several seasons.

S35

Well S35 started off with a bang, with a pick 6, a career first, in the very first game of the season. The feeling was something else, running clear of the opposing team straight towards the end zone, the joy was real. As the season progressed, Mark continued to play in fine form, racking up several more interceptions for NOLA. In the Wk8 versus Colorado Yeti, Mark had a career game, racking up 3 INT's & 6 further pass deflections. This was a strong season for sure. However it was all to change, a few weeks before the trade deadline was due, with a blockbuster deal saw mark being traded to the Baltimore Hawks as they continued there push to the playoffs & the eventual goal of the Ultimus. After the trade Mark settled into his role with the Hawks capping off a strong season, finishing with 7 INT's & 36 PD's his best season to date. They progressed to the playoffs as the No.1 seed. They were able to defeat the Chicago Butchers, last seasons winners, but fell at the last hurdle to the Sarasota Sailfish's. This was a career year for Mark & hopefully is a sign of a bright future ahead of him.

S36

A new season loomed after the tough loss to the Honolulu in the Ultimus the previous season. Mark was keen to build upon the impressive season resulting in a 1st Team All-pro selection for the first time and a nomination for CBotY award. Mark was keen to put everything that he learnt in the previous season into good use. Mark was voted as one of the teams defensive captains for Baltimore, a great honor. Mark had a very solid season, not to the extreme heights seen in the previous season, however the season was still an extremely strong one firmly putting Mark as one of the leading CB in the ISFL. Mark produced a career year when it came to passes allowed allowing under a 60% completion rate & recording a career high 39 passes defended. The hawks season didn't go as well as the previous season finishing with a losing record of 7-9 and failing to make the playoffs having reached the final in the previous season.

Coming into his final season under contract, Mark took the decision to leave Baltimore, this was not an easy decision by any strech and resulted in a many a discussion among the teams in the league. Mark eventually signed with the Arizona Outlaws. Hopefully this new era for Mark heralds the results that he is after.

S37

A new season and a new dawn for Mark. He made the move from Baltimore to Arizona over the offseason. Mark immediately took up a his role as the No.1 CB for Arizona boosting a relatively week secondary. The season started off with a hard fought loss to the previous seasons Ultimus champion, Honolulu Hahalua's and came up sort 31 - 24 even with securing his first INT of the year. Week two saw a bounce back win against New York, with a poor performance in week 3 against NOLA. Week 4 was another win against the Sabercats. By the end of Wk6 the Outlaws were 2 - 4 and not looking like a playoff team let alone a favorite for the Ultimus. However with a spectacular second half of the season where the outlaws won the last 8 regular season games finishing with the No.1 seed with a record of 11 - 4. Mark had another fantastic season, leading the league in INT's (9) and second in PD's (29) only one behind the league leader.

With the playoff the Outlaws played Honolulu again, this time getting the better of them in a commanding victory (31 - 19) and thus the Outlaw went on to face Sarasota in the Ultimus fianl. Mark had a simply fantastic game, recording 6 PD's, 2 INT's including a game sealing pick 6. And so with that Mark and the Arizona Outlaws were crowned the Ultimus champions. He was selected for both the Pro Bowl & 1st Team All-pro rosters.

S38

Coming off winning the Ultimus last season Mark was keen to all lesson learnt forward and hope to repeat the same feat again. The Outlaws had one of the best starts to an ISFL seasons in recent history, they Outlaws started with a 5 - 0 record taking their tally to 13 wins on the bounce include last season's Ultimus trophy. When week 6 rolled around, the Outlaws were playing Austin whoever they suffered a shock defeat to end the season. Mark at this point was still waiting to record his first INT of the season. During the week 8 match against Philadelphia, he recorded his 500th career tackle of the regular season. As the season progressed Mark & the Arizona Outlaws enjoy considerable success eventually finishing top of the conference with a 13-3 record and thus their second straight No.1 seeding for the playoffs. In the conference round, the Outlaws played the NYS and narrowly won 31-28 and so they moved onto the Ultimus and faced Berlin. The Ultimus was a close match between the Outlaws and Berlin with the Outlaws coming out on top 23 - 21, a second straight victory for the Outlaws and Mark. Can they threepeat in S39?

S39

Mark stared the season with back to back Ultimus wins to his name, in addition to his reining DPotY awards, he was keen to ensure that he put just as much if not more work into the upcoming season to really push for his place in ISFL history. Mark had a relativly lean season, as his ages is starting to take an effect on his performance, loosing the last 0.1mph to his top speed. However he was still part of a strong Outlaws teams and is now a real leader for the defensive side of the ball, becomig a team defensive captain for the second time in his career, his first for Arizona. The Outlaws had another top season, not as good as last seasons but still enough to finish 11-5 and take top spot in thier devision, and another apperance in the playoffs. Ultimelty the chance of three back-to-back ultimus was blown out of the water when they suffered a heavy deferat to YKW.

Mark passed a few important landmarks this seasons, including making the top 10 all time in PD's (212) and his 600th tackle. Hopefully S40 will see the Arizona Outlaws return to glory and win his third Ultimus.

S40

S40 saw Mark start to enter his twilight years in the league, after a great mid part of his career he was keen to push forwards and try to start on the right foot. He took a step back from the CB1 role with Spottie O'Dopaliscious & Outlaw Mode Sicko claiming that position from him and so was forced to play at NB for the season. The outlaws had another fantastic season again, finishing with a record of 14 - 2 and reaching the Ultimus where the faced last years winner YKW in a repeat this time hoping for a better outcome, and so they did. Winning the Ultimus 45 - 21, Mark had no flashy stats but did help out with 4 PD's pushing to No 1 all time in post season PD's, a record he was very proud of achieving with the hope of pushing that lead further out in the next seasons before he calls it quits. Mark also made strides up the all time PD leaderboard moving into 7th OA. So all in all a really good to start to the end of his career, will next season be his last?
