Leonardo McTurtle (born July 21, 1997) was an American football defensive end. He played college football for Shaolin Temple (ST).

Early years

When I was just a little turtle when I was exposed to some crazy weird ooze. I was then taken in by Master Splinter who taught me discipline and control. The first thing I was tuaght was how to master the martial arts. Once I had mastered my craft there I decided I needed to find a new challenege. I looked and tried many things but decided the best course of action for me was to try out football. I have since learnt to use these skills to conqour the gridiron. I started late in highschool but with the skills I had used my size and skills to help put me to the front of the school. After highschool I was awarded a scholarship to the Shaolin Temple I really found my stride on the field playing next to my brother who also decided to pursue a career in football as well. Naturally we are two peas i a pod. He played right beside me in the DT job. I have played my whole career beside him.

College career

My strange upbringing continured to play a role in my life. I chose the Shaolin Temple as a school I really respected due to the nature and connection it had to the marital arts. I was lucky enough to have my brother Raphael with me for this journey. College got off to a rocky start as I had to find a way to balance my love to pizza and partying compared to competing against much better athletes at the college level. Though I had the mental fortitude to power through some of the hardships and still end up finishing my rookie season with 30 combined tackles with 15 sacks. Not a bad start for a rookie right? Well I was able to pretty much match that the next 3 years of college ball despite our teams overall lack of success I found some pride in my personal achievements. Well to be honest the only real thing I focused on in college was football so I am glad I was able to declare for the season and the upcoming DSFL draft. without this opportunity it would mean I would have to go back to the sewers of New York and fight crime or something ridiclous.

College career statistics

McTurtle Lined up on the DE for Shaolin Temple for 4 years before making the jump to the DSFL. During his time he put up some good numbers for the team.

S31 After being picked up on waivers from the Luchadores their season was cut short falling in the conference finals. Leo was able to get some game action with 4 games played however was unable to really find his footing only registering 2 tacks and 2 tackles for a loss. He would use this as motivation though to get ready to come back for the upcoming DSFL draft determined to make an impact.

S32 Come time to the DSFL draft Leo was Taken 4th overall by the Tijuana Luchadores. Lucky for him he was able to also be drafted with his brother Raphael! Together the two made an instant impact with the dominating team of the Luchadores. The team had a rocky start but was able to battle back to make the playoffs. However the dream of the Ultimini was cut short with a conference finals loss to Norfolk. Despite that during the regular season Leo was determined to make an impact this time with his brother at his side. Leonardo would do just that. coming back and starting in all 14 games and notching 29 tackles, 4 tackles for loss, and an impressive 11 sacks. This performance played a huge role in him being nominated for 3 awards. He was nominated for Defensive end of the year, Defensive rookie of the year, and Defensive player of the year. It appears all eyes will be on Leonardo in the upcoming draft. S33 Then comes the S33 ISFL draft. With the first overall pick of the Draft Leonardo McTurtle was taken by the Orange County Otters. Orange County was not done their though. They also moved up from 13th to the 6th pick from the Philadelphia Liberty to select his brother Raphael McTurtle. After much discussion and negotiations with the coaches in Orange County during the off season it was finally decided that both Raph and Leo would stay together and join Orange County in their true rookie seasons. This was a season we weren’t really sure what to expect. After a slow start in the preseason and what turned out to be 3 true rookies in the lineup it was as though the season was supposed to be a building one. However it turned out to be anything but that. With some incredible coaching and MVP calibre seasons from some it was no doubt a season to remember. The young otters went 9-7 which secured a second place finish in the ASFC. They then pulled off a win against Austin to meet in the ASFC championship with Arizona. Once again they pulled off an upset win and were able to clinch a berth to the Ultimus. Unfortunately the Otters would come up short. This didn’t take away from the Fact that Leo was able to have an excellent rookie campaign notching 10 Sacks and a Safety as well as adding 24 tackles. He shows a lot of promise and hopefully this is the start to a very strong and long career.

S34 Well this was unfortunately a season to forget. Despite having some very close games that felt they could go either way it seemed the Otters would end up falling short almost every time. Despite a number 1 rated Pass Defense in the league the the Otters found themselves unable to stop the run. which ended up costing them in the end. Despite that Leonardo seemed to have another steady year of production and kept close numbers to the previous season. He did start all 16 games and was able to add 28 tackles 5 tackles for loss and added a fumble recovery this year. Despite putting up consistent numbers for his first two seasons it was a little bit of a let down as he was looking to build on it and put up some bigger numbers but as a whole the Otters seemed to have taken a lateral step rather then one forward. So despite this Leo has gone into the offseason feeling there was much needed to improve on and started putting in the work immediately. Leo is looking to take another step forward in his career next season with the goal of setting some personal records.

S35 In what turned out to be a bounce back year for the Otters making it back to the Wildcard spot in the playoffs ended abruptly when they ran into the high powered offense of Arizona who squashed the Otters chances of returning to the Ultimas. It was still a solid year though as the young Otters team took a good step forward and seemed to be right where they expected to be coming out of their rebuild. The Otters Finished 9-7 good enough for 3rd in the Division. With some of the additions leveling out the defensive line Leonardo had a bit of a quiet year. He failed to reach at least 10 sacks for the first time in his career and only managed 1 tackle for loss. Despite the lack of ability to get to the back field he was able to cause some turn overs with 3 Forced Fumbles and 1 Fumble recovery. Oddly enough despite the down in production stats wise this season Leonardo was still able to contribute and looks to bounce back next season when he renewed on a 1 year contract with the Otters.

S36 Well as it turns out it would be a disappointing end to to the McTurtle's career in Orange County with the Otters. Missing the playoffs again this season. Leo had an okay year despite hoping to take another step forward it seemed to have fallen apart late in the season. Believing they were a playoff team OCO looked to bolster their roster at the trade deadline which gave Leo a spark and in a single game almost doubled his stats on the season however that would be all he was able to do. OCO seemed to be stuck as a mid team and fell short of the playoffs again, much like Leonardo's season was a mirror to this with flashes of greatness but a lot of forgettable games as well. This would mark the end of the current chapter in his career as Leonardo with Raphael would go to Free Agency in search of a new home. Much to his surprise there was a lot of interest in him and his brother with multiple offers coming out of seemingly no where. It was quite the experience for the young turtle who is reaching his peak years. With careful consideration and after much back and forth with would be decided that Arizona would be the turtles new home. It is time to start looking forward to what the future can bring for both the McTurtles and Arizona.

S37 This year was a crazy one. Leo got his first free agency experience which was incredible and ended up landing himself in Arizona. It was once he landed here that the team asked him to make the swap to Linebacker which Leo was willing to do as it would be most beneficial for the team moving forward. Well this swap seemed to really work out for Leo who ended up having a career year and building on all his totals. He saw a career high in sacks with 14 and tackles with 91. Most importantly this swap enabled the Defense to really start clicking after a 5-3 start which was a little shaky the team ran the table and won out the rest of the season. Which led the team and Leo back to the Ultimas for another shot at the ring. Well it was one for the ages and The outlaws were able to take control of the game and come up with key stopped when they were needed.

S38 In a season that many thought the Outlaws would have a tougher time after a deep playoff run. The typical thing would to be having a bit of a hangover but this season was anything but that. Right from the first snap of the ball the Outlaws looked poised to run it back for another championship. After an absolutely incredible start to the season which saw them go 5-0 the Outlaws were able to continue strong play with a couple tough road games to end the season with a 13-3 record. Leonardo had another strong showing this season in the Linebacker position thought his stats don't jump off the page it is really more to do with the fact the team defense was so strong and balanced they it was very much a victory by community. The Outlaws defense 2nd in the league for point, and 2nd in the league for yards, they were also 1st in the league against the rush and 3rd in the league against the pass. In the end the Outlaws were able to run it back and pick up a back to back championship.

S39 coming off back to back championships the Outlaws seemed to be the big train that just keeps chugging on. They were projected to once again be one of if now the team to beat despite being another year older and some minor personal changes. But in large the core of the team was still put together extremely well and it is why a lot of teams had them as the team to beat this season. Now the season didn't exactly go to plan As they ended up in a tie with Austin for the top seed in the conference luckily they held the tie breaker and were able to secure a bye into the second round. Despite having a strong game in the conference championship it would end up being a clash of the juggernauts in the finals with Yellowknife Wraiths cleaning up the standings in their conference. In the end it would be Yellowknife that would life the championship. Despite this the core of the Outlaws still remains very much together and they will once again regroup and look to make their way back to the championship next season. On a personal side Leonardo was able to have a career year breaking his tackles, tackles for loss, and sack's totals for a season. Leo expressed how much harder he would have to work this offseason to ensure that he comes back ready next season as well.

S40 This Season was one that felt like it was unfinished business. After going to 3 straight Ultimus championships after losing the S 39 in spectacular fashion it seemed like it would be the end of the Outlaws. But that could not be further from the truth. The Outlaws who many considered to be old and washed up after the loss decided they were not done. They went out and put the league on notice that they were still very much here and it was no fluke. Arizona had their way with the league on route to a League best 14-2 record. Their defence would the the bright spot as well ranking 1st in both points and yards against per game and 2nd in passing and rushing yards per game. Even with this they would go onto the Conference championship where they would beat The Orange County Otters to set up a rematch with the Yellowknife Wraiths in the finals. This time it would be all Outlaws Who were holding onto a narrow lead with Leonardo McTurtle completed a strip sack fumble and recovery which he returned for a Touchdown! After that it was almost as if the Outlaws were on cruise control as they would go on to win their 3rd ring in 4 seasons with a score of 45-21. Leonardo seemed to have his best game of the year and was named the defensive MVP in the Ultimus.

S41 Well what can be said about this season? It was a different vibe when the team started out slow this season many wondering if we were over the hill and if we had it in us to try and make another push for the playoffs. Well with the help of a fw key additions we did just that. After starting 2-5 The Outlaws would run the table taking them to their 5th Ultimus Championship in as many years. Though it would not turn out the way they had hoped it was still something incredible to watch. As for a personal level of Leonardo this season it was a mixed bag. There were games that he seemed like he was showing his age and others that he was completely lights out! In the end he would be down this season on total tackles as he moved aside for the younger players to become more impactful but was still able to set a career best in total sacks in a season with 16. He also added a second career INT this season along with 2FF and 2 Fumble recoveries. Through the years Leo has been consistent and it looks like this season he was able to continue that trend!

S42 I am getting to old for this. Leonardo said as he unloaded his bag of clothes into the locker room at the start of the season 42 training camp. Though being old and into the routine of this seemed to help in the end. Been there done that knowing the routine and how to get back into it. Ensuring you take care of yourself and yes even try to limit the amount of pizza you eat in the offseason. Leonardo is old and slowing down but that hasn’t taken away any of his compete level. That compete is what helped him put up another 15 sack season. It also allowed him to adapt and play more of a coverage role which lead to a new career high of 12 pass deflections and even securing a safety and an interception. Leonardo would again play his role and help the Outlaws be the most dominate defense in the league ranking first in pts allowed, yards allowed, and rushing yards allowed. Leonardo had another great performance this season despite not making the all pro team he was excited to be lifting the Ultimus championship trophy again.

S43 This season was the first real show of decline in Leonardo McTurtle, it was a sign that the time in Arizona and the league may soon be coming to an end. Despite having a personal highlight in week 5 with a interception returned for a touchdown, the first of his career, there were some clear signs that Leonardo is getting older and slowing down. His total sacks this season was cut in almost half going from 15 to 8. Despite this it was still a very encouraging season for him overall where he was able to still contribute to the team and added 85 tackles. The Arizona Defense is still in the top half of the league stat wise and they helped keep the outlaws in every game this season. They also added a number of defensive touchdowns on the season which was a massive uplift for the team. Arizona would go into the playoffs again once again and would face off against Hahalua who they would beat in a close one 32-27 before losing a in a last minute error to the Silverbacks in the ASFC title game.

S44 A very whelming sunset to a overall solid career for Leonardo McTurtle. The season was not the fairy tale ending that he had hoped for but overall it was one that left His mark on the league none the less. Arizona had a few terrible luck games that ended up being the story of the season it would appear as they would fall short of making the playoffs in what seems like an eternity. Despite this Leonardo was able to get a few last stats on his resume to solidify his outside shot at a hall of fame vote. In the end Leo would end his career 8th all time with 92 tackles for a loss, 5th all time with 138 Sacks, tied for 14th with 3 safeties. A very solid career number wise and appearing to be a player that was consistently good but never great in the eyes of probowl or all pro teams. In the end he still retires with 4 Ultimus Champion rings. Enjoy retirement Leonardo.
