Kichwa Jones (born March 3, 2015) is an American football runningback who is currently unsigned by a professional team. He played college football for Tennessee and has declared his intent to enter the professional ranks next season.

Early years

Kichwa Jones was born in San Diego, California to James and Denise Jones. Kichwa's father, James, was a Commander in the U.S. Navy, while his mother, Denise, was an Elementary School Teacher. Jones attend Cathedral Catholic High School where he started his Freshman year as a backup. By his Sophmore year, Jones had impressed his coaching staff and earned the starting role. His Junior season, Jones' led the Dons to their first California State Championship since 2021. During his Senior season, Kichwa was one of the most highly recruited runningbacks in the country; regarded as a five-star recruit by Rivals.com where he was ranked as the second best all-purpose back in his class. At the conclusion of his Senior year, Jones signed a letter of committal with The University of Tennessee when then-coach Jameis Winston promised him the role of a featured back his Freshman year.

In track & field, Jones was one of the state's top sprinters. At the 2034 CHSAA, he recorded a personal-best time of 22.02 seconds in the 200-meter dash and placed 3rd. A couple months later, Jones recorded a 100-meter dash time of 10.12 at the CMAC Invitational, although this was heavily wind aided. He would later run a 10.89 to earn a 2nd place finish in the finals.

College career

Freshman Season

Jones began his college career as the featured back of the Volunteers. In his first start, Jones got off to a promising start recording 168 rushing yards on 22 attempts with 2 TDs and added 32 recieving yards. However, during the second game of the season, Jones suffered a torn ACL when he planted his foot during a cut in the backfield. Jones underwent season-ending surgery the following week. Kichwa used this set back positively and honed his skills as a leader on the sidelines. Despite this, the Volunteers finished the season 4-8.

Sophomore Season

Jones regained his starting role his sophomore season for the Tennessee Volunteers. With renewed vigor, Kichwa set out to turn around the Volunteers after their previous season ended quite disappointingly. Jones would play in all 13 season games the Volunteers played, including his appearance in the Chex Mix bowl loss versus Kansas State. Tennessee finished the season with a 8-5 record while the team saw significant improvement from last year and improving the teams position for recruitment. He would rush for a total 1,214 yards on 196 attempts with 10 rushing TDs. Jones also added 215 yards on 21 receptions with 2 receiving TDs.

Junior Season

During his Junior season, Jones began his emergence as a pass-catching back under Freshman (RS) Quarterback Lucas Grey. The Volunteers' season got of to an amazing start, winning their first 7 games with signature wins against Alabama and Ohio State. Unfortunately, the Volunteers' dropped their two following games to Georgia and LSU. On October 24th, Jones rushed for 282 yard with 4 TDs against Kentucky. Tennessee finished the season with a 9-3 record and was selected to play against Notre Dame in the Papa John's Cholesterol Bowl where they earned their first bowl win in 7 seasons. Jones ended the season with 1,422 yards on 208 attempts with 15 rushing TDs. He also added 526 yards on 58 receptions and 8 receiving TDs.

Senior Season

Jones' Senior season saw the Volunteers go 10-2 with the assistance of breakout star QB, Lucas Grey, barely missing the college football playoffs. In the Taco Bell Fiesta Bowl against UCF, the Volunteers lost a brutal overtime thriller. Jones was an early season Heisman candidate, but ultimately missed the final voting by a narrow margin. Jones finished the season with 1,594 yards on 231 attempts with 18 rushing TDs and added 496 yards on 52 receptions with 7 receiving TDs.

Kichwa Jones entered the draft as a relatively unknown entity. He was the fastest player in the draft class and was touted as a top running back prospect in the class. His compact frame, agility, and speed combined to create an offensive weapon that was appealing to many scouts. However, his limited interaction with DSFL prior to the draft resulted in his draft stock declining quite a bit.

Kichwa Jones was selected in the 8th round as the 58th overall pick in the 2036 DSFL draft by the Dallas Birddogs. In Dallas, Jones joined a three-headed rushing attack along with fellow running backs White Goodman and Aaron Feels. Jones nearly split carries with Goodman, however his limited ability in the blocking and passing game limited his usage on the field. In his rookie campaign, Jones was able to accumulate 904 yards on 203 carries with 8 TDs. He had limited contribution in the passing game with only 3 receptions for 22 yards. However, the speedy Jones would prove to be a force to be reckoned with on special teams and was utilized extensively as a punt and kick returner where he led the DSFL in total special teams return yards with 938 where he added a single return TD. Despite his limited number of touches, Jones was able to finish the year ranked 15th in the DSFL in rushing yards and tied ranked 8th in the league in rushing TD. Kichwa Jones saw a good amount of success on special teams and led the league in return yards and was a finalist in the DSFL Returner of the Year award.

Kichwa Jones was selected by the Austin Copperheads with the 6th pick in the 4th round of the Season 22 NSFL Draft (40th Overall). Jones was immediately sent down for another year in the DSFL as Austin already had one of the best backs in the league with Mendoca while also trading Chicago for Ryan Leaf Jr. in pursuit of an Ultimus.

Kichwa Jones’ sophomore season saw the departure and name change of running back White Goodman which resulted in Jones becoming the featured back on an impressive Dallas Offense. Although Jones was the main running back, he did still share time with Aaron Feels, Murphy, and Eller with the three combining for 266 carries.

Despite the pure talent on Dallas’ roster, their offense seemed to hit quite a few snags and unlucky breaks which resulting in the team just narrowly missing the playoffs. While the Dallas Birddogs season was not widely considered a success, Kichwa’s season was overwhelmingly positive. He improved on is rookie season by accumulated just over 1,400 rushing yards and was able to maintain an insane 5.2 yards per carry average. Jones was able to supplement his rushing prowess with contributions in the passing game as he accumulated 51 receiving yards and a single receiving touchdown. Jones ceded most return responsibilities to M. Lee, but was still able to contribute 560 special teams yards.

Jones’ successful season brought a number of accolades including being selected to the S22 DSFL Pro Bowl with the most votes of any running backs in the SFC. Kichwa Jones also was also selected as the S22 DSFL Running Back of the Year Award recipient with 29 votes by the selection committee who were particularly impressed by his YPC average. Kichwa Jones also received the S22 DSFL Offensive Player of the Year Award by a single selection committee vote. Jones was also nominated for the Offensive Performance of the Year for his S22 Week 8 performance where he accumulate 3 TDs, but ultimately did not win.
