Juan Domine (born September 30, 2015) is an American football linebacker for the London Royals of the Developmental Simulation Football League (DSFL).

Early years

Juan Domine was first discovered by a priest on the front step of the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Kingston, Jamaica with a single note that read Domine non sum dignus, a Latin phrase which translates to Lord, I'm not worthy. Raised by the bishop of the cathedral, Juan would go onto aspiring to this sentiment for the rest of his life.

After attending primary school, he was eventually accepted into Campion College, a Jesuit school widely regarded as the top high school among all of the Caribbean nations, where he played linebacker and safety for the football team. As a junior in 2032 he had 157 tackles, eight sacks, four forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, four interceptions, and three touchdowns as a linebacker. He helped his team go 15-0, winning the CARIFTA Games, finishing at the top of national polls as the best high school team in Jamaica. As a senior in 2033, he had 134 tackles and five forced fumbles.

Regarded as a three-star recruit, Domine was listed as the No. 43 linebacker prospect in the class of 2034. After official visits to Houston, Texas, Texas A&M, and Texas Tech, Domine committed to the Cougars in January 2034.

College career

Domine attended the University of Houston, a member of the American Athletic Conference (AAC), where he played for the Houston Cougars football team from 2034 to 2037.

As a true freshman in 2034, Domine became the Cougars' starting outside linebacker after a season-ending injury to team's defensive captain. He finished the season with 149 tackles (91 solo), which led the team and conference, as well as being first among freshmen nationally. For his play, he was named the 2034 AAC Defensive Rookie of the Year and was named to the AAC All-Freshman Defensive Team.

At the beginning of his sophomore season, Domine moved to middle linebacker. He went on to lead the country with 193 tackles (109 solo), including an ongoing streak of 19 straight games with 10+ tackles at the end of the season. This total matched the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) single-season tackle record set by Texas A&M's Lawrence Flugence in 2002. Domine was named as a finalist for both the Butkus and Nagurski Awards. His 193 tackles broke the school single season record, topping the previous mark of 177 set by Frank Ditta in 1970. After the season, Domine was named a first team All-American. This was the first All-American selection for the Cougars since Ed Oliver in 2018 and the first ever All-American selection among the Houston linebacker corps.

Domine once again led the nation with 184 tackles (96 solo) during his senior season. This would have broken his own team and conference single-season records had he not eclipsed this mark just a year earlier. Domine would win the Butkus and Narguski Trophies in his senior season and was recognized as a first-team All-American for a second year. In just three seasons, Domine set the Houston and AAC career tackle records with 526 tackles, surpassing the previous record of 510 held by four-year starter Marcus McGraw.

Off the field, Domine earned a bachelor's degree in Modeling Virtual Environments and Simulation.

Professional career

DSFL

Although Domine was outshined in the Prospect Bowl by fellow draftees, he was able to impress DSFL GMs during interviews and was selected with the 7th overall pick of the 2038 DSFL draft by the London Royals.

2038

Domine's most impressive performance of the regular season came in Week 2 against the Minnesota Grey Ducks. In addition to a game-high 14 tackles, Domine caught two interceptions and deflected two passes in a 20-14 losing effort. Domine would later be nominated for the Defensive Performance of the Year for this game but would ultimately lose the award to Tijuana Luchadores defensive back Bane Ka'ana'ana for his 4 pass deflection, 2 interception performance in a Week 11 road win against the Kansas City Coyotes.

Domine would have a similarly stellar performance in the NFC conference championship against the Coyotes, tallying 10 tackles, 1 sack, 2 pass deflections, and 2 interceptions. London would go on to lose the game by a final score of 14-13.

Throughout the season, Domine and Minnesota Grey Ducks linebacker Alejandro Chainbreaker constantly battled for several coveted seasonal awards. Domine showed an incredible eye for the flow of a play, always seeming to seek out the football for a tackle in a way rarely seen before, while Chainbreaker served as a more physical threat, capable of delivering vicious hits and causing turnovers. By the end of the season, Chainbreaker eked out victories in the Defensive Player of the Year and Linebacker of the year categories.

Domine's rookie season was largely successful for the Royals, as he set multiple franchise records for the burgeoning club, including interceptions in a game (2), interceptions in the playoffs (2), interception return yards in a game (57; playoffs), and tackles in a season (166). Additionally, due to the franchise's relative youth, Domine is currently the career leader in tackles (166).

2039

With the sting of a playoff loss still fresh in the team's memory, Domine and and every other rookie player returned to the team for another attempt at winning an Ultimini before being called up to their respective ISFL teams. Now boasting a full roster, the Royals were heavily favored in most contests, allowing Domine to focus more on pass rushing as opponents frequently fell behind in games.

Domine's best performance of the season came in Week 6, when the Royals soundly defeated the Norfolk Seawolves. In addition to eight tackles, one TFL, and one pass deflection, Domine sacked Seawolves QB Suleiman Ramza three times en route to a 33-13 victory that handed Norfolk its first defeat of the season.

Domine would break another franchise record in his second DSFL season by tallying 12 sacks on the season, which also led the league.

London finished the regular season with an 8-6 record. While this was not the dominant performance expected from the team, it was still enough to enter the postseason as the #1 seed in the NFC North. After a stalwart defensive performance in which London defeated the Portland Pythons 22-3, the Royals hosted the Seawolves in the championship game, where Domine was involved in the most crucial play of the game. With the game tied at 17 Ramza attempted a QB sneak to get out of the Norfolk end zone, but the ball was jarred loose by star defensive end Mattress Cadaire. Domine secured the ball, and reigning Running Back of the Year Danny King would score his third touchdown of the game on the following play, claiming the first Ultimini championship in team history.
