Joseph Gustavus Wozniak (born January 1, 2011) is an American football safety who who was drafted by the Tijuana Luchadores for the DSFL S17.. He played college football for University of Michigan (Michigan) and has declared his intent to enter the professional ranks next season. He was drafted 35th overall in the S17 DSFL draft, the third safety drafted overall.

Early years

Joseph Wozniak grew up in Hamtramck, Michigan, playing WR for his high school football team, and center field for his school's baseball time. Wozniak started on varsity beginning in his sophomore year, however he missed much of his junior year of high school after breaking his leg in a hot air balloon incident. A local newspaper was quoted regarding the incident: "Local high school football player injured in freak hot air balloon accident. According to bystanders the balloon was rising when the bottom split open dropping the passengers. The passengers fell approximately 10 feet, with one person being hospitalized. The hot air balloon company refused to comment on the incident."

Wozniak's team missed the playoffs that season, the only time that occurred during his time in high school. While in college, Joseph told the student newspaper that he received great criticism throughout high school for his team missing the playoffs.

During his Senior year of high school his team reached the D1 State Championship, but lost 17-16. Joseph would finish his high school career without winning a state championship. Joseph Wozniak received multiple scholarships from Big10 schools, along with Notre Dame, but ultimately choose the University of Michigan.

College career

Joseph Wozniak was recruited by the University of Michigan. While he played WR in high school, he was transitioned to free safety while at U of M. His freshman year he played in limited snaps, never starting a game. After Michigan's starting free safety was suspended for off the field concerns, Wozniak played his first game as a starter, where he recorded 5 tackles and 1 interception. At the end of his sophomore year he recorded 29 solo tackles, 48 total tackles, and 2 interceptions. In his junior year he recorded 44 solo tackles, 66 total tackles, and 1 interception. After declining to declare for the draft and returning for his senior year, he had is best season yet, recording 55 solo tackles, 80 total tackles, and 4 interceptions.

Joseph was involved in one major disciplinary incident while at the University of Michigan, when he and a number of teammates were accused of graffiti on Ohio State Universities' stadium. The players had reportedly used black spray paint to cover the "The" in "the Ohio State University" in multiple spots throughout the stadium. Wozniak claimed that while he was present during these activities, he did not participate in the vandalism. Local police reported that multiple members of the team were intoxicated, but declined to name those members. Wozniak received a 1 game suspension for his participation in the criminal activity.

Professional career

Prospect Bowl Prior to the S17 DSFL draft, Joseph Wozniak participated in the Prospect Bowl, as a member of the Midwest Wolfpack. Joseph's play in the Prospect Bowl was inconstant, winning multiple Defensive Player of the Game awards, but also having games where he was largely irrelevant.
