Jonathan Rice (born January 17, 2003) is an American football cornerback for the Orange County Otters of the National Simulation Football League (NSFL). He played college football for the University of Akron before being drafted by the Orange County Otters in the 2026 ISFL Draft (S11). Prior to that, he had been drafted by the San Antonio Marshals of the Developmental Simulation Football League.

Early years

Jonathan Rice was born in the small town of Springboro, Ohio. Squeezed between the cities of Dayton and Cincinnati, Springboro is a part of the football producing hotbed that is southern Ohio, that has produced the likes of AJ Hawk, Mike Nugent, and many others. Rice felt this weight as he grew up and was determined to be the next prospect from this area of the football loving state. However, Rice was dealt a terrible injury history in high school, including a torn ACL as a junior, which caused all of the major college programs to pull their interest in the corner. With only a few offers as his senior year ended, Rice decided to go to the University of Akron.

College career

Rice was redshirted as freshman and placed on a program to better develop his fitness, to hopefully curb his injury history and hopefully avoid future injuries. Rice made it through that redshirt year healthy, and started as a redshirt freshman for the Zips. He led the team in passes defended and interceptions as the Zips struggled for most of the season, but mostly on offense. Rice returned for his redshirt sophomore season and again led a stout Zips secondary. He set the school record for interceptions in a season, while leading the MAC in passes defended and interceptions. Afterward Rice declared for the DSFL draft, but turned in his information late and was put on the waiver wire.
