Johnny Sparks Delusional (born August 12, 2028) is a former American football cornerback for the New Orleans Second Line of the National Simulation Football League (ISFL).

Early years

Born at the tail end of 2028 to Ronda and Russell Delusional, Johnny was always interested in sports and most of all American Football. His parents however were very musical and wanted him to learn piano. So, his childhood years were spent figuretively and literally on the bench. A piano bench. He very much excelled at music but his true love was football. It wasn't until middle school when a tragic accident broke one of his playing fingers and he had to wear a large mitten for a few months when he told himself, "Hey, this can swat down some footballs!", and his parents finally gave him the opportunity to join the organizing sport he wished to join most of all... Football. He played for the Palisades Dolphins for all of high shool and when he was targeted from colleges all around the United States he decided to stay home and go to the University of California - Los Angeles.

College career

After joining the Music Program at the University of California - Los Angeles expecting to make sports his secondary interest in his college career he tried out for the UCLA Bruins football team the fall of freshman year, and earned a starting spot on the roster by the 2nd game with a injury to starting CB Sparks Johnson. It is belived that Johnny took his nickname from Sparks Johnson for giving him his first opportunity to see playing time for the UCLA Bruins. After earning 2 deflected passes and 2 sacks in his first three games. The Cornerback was soon switched to Outside Linebacker to do his quick speed and he impecable timing allowing for big time plays whether he was rushing the quarterback or dropping back to cover the recievers or the tight ends. UCLA earned a spot in the college football playoffs both years Johnny Delusional was on defense. but they were eliminated in the first round both times. He recieved honors in his division and was nominated for Linebacker of the year his sophomore season. After his sophomore season he decided to forego his final two years and declare for the DSFL draft. He showed up for the combine and attempted to show he had the abilility to make it in the pros.

Professional career

DSFL career

It was always a risk for such a young player to leave college early and to declare for the draft, but his combine performance and interviews with many teams were very impressive. The team that was most impressed with his combine and scouted him the most was the long-time excellent team, the Tijuana Luchadores who took the chance at the young linebacker with the 30th pick overall in that years draft. As the 6th pick in the 4th round this pretty much guaranteed him playing time early in his DSFL career, and would let him show his skills to the teams of the ISFL earlier than many of the lower draft picks. As a DSFL rookie, Johnny Delusional, showed to be one of the best of the best by being nominated and eventually winning both Linebacker of the Year and Defensive Rookie of the Year. These awards catapulted him up the draft boards into the first round where he would eventually be drafted by his future and current home, the Berlin Fire Salamanders.

ISFL career through Season 39

With the 12th pick of very first round of the Season 35 ISFL draft, Johnny Delusional was selected at the tail end by the expansion and rebuilding Berlin Fire Salamanders. The road to Berlin was a long one but Johnny Delusional has proven to be a successful and crutial member of Berlin's defensive unit. Originally starting as a Linebacker, Johnny soon switched back to the position he originally played the first year of college, Cornerback. And he has remained at that position ever since. While no awards have graced Johnny Delusional since his DSFL career his stats have shown him to be a roll player four seasons in. While starting as a Kick returner and slowly finding his way to the defensive side of the ball, Delusional has racked up 190 total tackles, 52 pass deflections, 7 interceptions, 7 sacks and a forced fumble. With the upcoming season being his 5th with Berlin and 7th between both leagues; Delusional is still improving and since changing to a Cover Corner his career has joined a new trajectory for seasons to come.

Season 40

As Johnny Delusional's career continued, maybe he was a bit "delusional" to believe he could start for his team forever. After only starting 12 games during season 38, and 10 games during season 39, he was relegated to only 9 games this season. And while the stats we're above average for someone who quote-on--quote warmed the bench for half the season, the numbers don't jump off the page at least season wise. Johnny Delusional's best game of the season came in a 1-interception, 2-pass deflection, and 1 sack game against the Honolulu Hahalua, this was the first game of the season for both teams, however for the Fire Salamanders this was arguably their high point of the season. Delusional completed season 40 with 28 tackles, 2 sacks, 1 interception and 12 pass deflections in 9 games.

The down year for Delusional was also a down year for the Berlin Fire Salamanders who ended the season out of the playoff race and just above the worst team in the division with a final record of 5-10-1.

Season 41

Johnny Delusional's season started with discussions of a possible trade brewing between New Orleans and Berlin, and only after 4 games, Delusional was shipped overseas to New Orleans with Brandon Unker and rookie Lukas van Ness for Beniri T'Chawama, Ttollem Mada, The Stig, and Ganyu. While this trade was beneficial for both teams, Berlin was the benefactor ending their season 5-11, only one game behind last-years record on what was destined to be an even more down year for them. Starting 14 games during this season between his stints on 2 teams, Delusional completed season 41 with 61 tackles, 2 sacks, 1 interception, and 25 pass deflections a significant improvement for the most part after a season in which he only started 9 games.

Delusional did not win a game with the New Orleans Second Line this season which dropped the last 14 straight games to end the season not just the worst team in the division, but also the worst team in the league with a final record of 1-15.

Season 42

Johnny Delusional's first full season began as last year ended, with a rebuilding team trying their hardest to win even a single game. Starting 14 games during this season equaling the number of games he started the previous season; Delusional completed this season with 39 tackles; down over 20 from last season, 6 sacks; up 4 from the previous year, 2 interceptions; doubling last season's numbers, a forced fumble; the second of his career; and 9 pass deflections; almost 3x fewer than the previous season.

Delusional won his first and only game with the New Orleans Second Line in a career game against the San Jose Sabrecats where he sacked the Quarterback once, scored 2 pass deflections, and notched an interception which sealed the close 2-point victory and gave the Second Line their sole win of the season. Once again the team ended the season not just the worst team in the division, but also the worst team in the league with a final record of 1-15. Their GM left at the end of the season after a long career.

Season 43

Season 43 was the 2nd full season for Johnny Delusional on the New Orleans Second Line and while the team's record didn't improve compared to what it was last year, this rebuilding team added many young players to play with seasoned vets like Delusional to play many more close games and work to improve for future seasons. Delusional started all 16 season games; up from just 14 games during the previous season. Delusional, with exceptional stats, completed this season with 82 tackles; more than doubling the tackle total from season 42, 10 sacks; up 4 from the previous year, 1 interception; and a fumble recovery; and 5 pass deflections; moving him more to the line attacking the quarterback with a blitz instead of an attack in the secondary.

Delusional won his 2nd ever game and only game this season with the New Orleans Second Line against the Arizona Outlaws where he sacked the Quarterback once, and tied the team for most tackles with 11, in an overtime victory that stopped the Second Line's loss streak at 17 straight losses. New Orleans went 1-15 again to end the season.

Season 44

Season 44 was the 3rd complete season for Johnny Delusional on the New Orleans Second Line, the team had started to rebound in the win column and had started to complete their rebuild by drafting a phenomenal defense and growing the offense to be one to be feared again. The rookies were becoming veterans and the veterans were becoming obsolete. Delusional started all 16 season games; but was no longer the playmaker of his youth. Delusional, finished the season with 62 tackles; losing 20 total tackles between season, Delusional also totaled 0 sacks which was a far cry from the double digit sack numbers a season prior; and made 1 interception and 11 pass deflections; the interception in which helped the Second Line to their 2nd win of the season against the Colorado Yeti.

Delusional announced in the press conference after the Week 8 victory that this would be his final season with New Orleans and final season playing for the ISFL as he was retiring. In a week 17 loss versus the Berlin Fire Salamanders, Delusional made 5 tackles and deflected 1 pass in his final game. The Second Line went 3-13 to end the season; their best record with Delusional on the Team.
