Jimmy Cooks (born September 23, 1998) is an American football safety for the Undrafted of the National Simulation Football League (NSFL).

Early years

Jimmy Cooks was born in FairField, California, with his mother, Ashley, and father, Greg. He began his football career in the local legues of his home town, where is was immediately apparent that Cooks was playing on a higher level than the rest of his peers. As he continued playing in middle and high school, he earned a reputation as the type safety that would strike fear in the heart of opposing quarterbacks and receivers. One wide receiver from Armijo High School described playing against Cooks as "dealing with f****** Ronnie Lott out there." In his junior year, he set the school record in interceptions, which still stands today. In his senior year, Cooks started gaining attention from the University of California, UCLA, and other schools in the area. He ultimately decided on Stanford, deciding to pursue a quality education along with the opportunity to play football at the next level.

College career

Cooks accepted a scholarship offer from Stanford, where he played under head coach David Shaw. As a freshman, he didn't much playing time on defense, only taking snaps for players coming out for rest. He did, however, make an immediate impact as a gunner, allowing only 5 punt return yards over the course of the season, as well as earning 1 forced fumble. In his sophomore year, Cooks took the reigns as the starting free safety. He led the Pac-12 in interceptions with 7, including one returned for a touchdown. He also accumlated 42 tackles and 2 sacks throughout the season. His dominant performance continued into his junior year where he finished for 5 interceptions, 45 tackles, and 2 sacks. Cooks' defining moment came in the regular season finale against Notre Dame, where he picked off Notre Dame quarterback Ian Book late in the 4th quarter to seal the game for Stanford. Following the 2019 college football season, Cooks declared for the NSFL draft.
