Jay Longshaw (born January 1, 2007) is a American football quarterback for the Norfolk SeaWolves of the National Simulation Football League (NSFL). He played college football for Vanderbilt University before entering the professional ranks in 2029 Draft (S14)

Early years

Jay Longshaw is the son of former SaberCats and Yeti offensive lineman, Ben Longshaw. He was born in Santa Claus, Indiana, where he would spend his entire childhood. He attended Heritage Hills High School in Lincoln City. Before his football career, he played Rugby League at the urging of his father. Ben Longshaw, being originally from Australia, had hoped to see his son succeed in the sport and raise the game's profile in the United States. However, Jay eventually found his way onto the gridiron, and hasn't looked back since.

College career

Of much attention around the time of his declaration for the 2029 Draft (S14) was the fact that Longshaw did not start a single game for Vanderbilt University throughout college, nor have any significant game time in general. As such, little of note occurred during his college career. At the time he gave notice that he intended to declare for the draft, Longshaw remarked that he hoped his 'football pedigree' would be enough to secure him a place on a DSFL roster.

Longshaw declared for the 2029 Draft (S14) shortly after the announcement that the league would be expanded to allow for college players to play for both the Palm Beach Solar Bears and the Norfolk SeaWolves. Additionally, a number of high-profile quarterbacks had been drafted in the preceding NSFL draft, which meant that at some point in the near future, multiple teams at the DSFL level would be in need of a new quarterback.

Longshaw capitalised on this perfect storm of events. Despite a large number of fellow quarterbacks declaring for the draft, he banked on the combination of the expansion of the DSFL and the eventual loss of high-calibre rivals such as Cooter Bigsby and Corvo Havran leading to a perceived high demand for quarterbacks among general managers. This gamble paid off, as despite not submitting a single second's worth of game tape (given that he had not taken part in any meaningful game time during college), Longshaw was the 25th player drafted out of more than 100 prospects.

Longshaw was drafted by the expansion franchise, Norfolk SeaWolves. Despite being part of the DSFL since its inception, the SeaWolves had never before accepted college players, instead relying on academy players supplied by the league to fill out the roster. As such, Norfolk, and fellow league-run franchise Palm Beach, had long been considered 'easy beats'. While many around the league recommended that the expansion teams draft with long-term success in mind, the SeaWolves drafted aggressively, including selecting the unproven Longshaw with the first pick of the fifth round.

Just as he'd hoped, Longshaw was selected based on his 'football pedigree', with the SeaWolves general managers not doubt hoping their new quarterback would go on to become a Pro Bowler, just like his father.
