Jaren Haden (born December 20, 2008) is an American football linebacker for the NONE of the National Simulation Football League (X). He played college football for West Virginia University (WVU) and has declared his intent to enter the professional ranks next season.

Early years

Haden was born in Wheeling, West Virginia. He attended Brooke High School in Wellsburg, WV, where he played football, basketball and baseball. In football, he played both linebacker and fullback. As a fullback, he ran for over 1,000 yards in both his junior and senior seasons with 13 touchdowns in his senior season. In spite of this, he received no major college offers to play. He was offered to attend West Virginia University, earning the promise scholarship with a high ACT score and playing on their baseball team as a third baseman.

College career

Playing baseball at West Virginia, the passion for football never faded for Haden. From the moment he stepped on campus, he began working to walk on to the Mountaineers football team. In his freshman year, he became a walk-on with the team and a member of the practice squad for them. The following year, he began to earn respect of the coaches for his work on special teams. His drive and focus became apparent to his coaches as he became a regular voice in the locker room during defensive meetings. Toward the end of his sophomore year, he found himself starting two games and getting a strong 24 tackles total and 3 for a loss.

Going into his junior season, Haden had earned a full time scholarship on the football team as well and earned his role as a starter as an outside linebacker for the 3-3-5 stack in West Virginia. In an ornate system, he became a vocal leader on the field and was able to accrue four sacks to go along with 13.5 tackles for loss and 156 tackles in total when he was named to the Big-12 Second All-Conference Team.

He returned again for his senior year, this time moving inside the middle of the field as the ILB. As the play caller and leader, he began getting noticed more by professional scouts. He finished his year with 192 tackles in total, 17 tackles for loss, 3 sacks and 2 interceptions as an all-around threat to the offense. He was recognized as an NCAA All-American in his senior year, as well as being nominated for the Butkus Award, though failing to win.
