JAKE HAYES (born July 17, 1993) is an American football defensive tackle who is currently preparing to enter the professional ranks. He played college football for Southampton Solent and has declared his intent to enter the professional ranks next season.

Early years

Hayes was born in Leicester, England. His formative years were spent playing Rugby and this helped him develop a love for sports and competiton, he broke several high school records during his career and was a hot prospect. In his teenage years a passion for Football grew from watching games online, a freak accident where Hayes fell from a bus led to the amputation of his left leg and an extended period of being confined to a bed. During this time Hayes became a real tape enthusiast and learnt as much as he could about the game of Football. A groundbreaking surgery gave Hayes a bionic leg from the knee down and allowed him to begin playing Football once again.

College career

Hayes arrived at Southampton Solent in the Autumn (Fall) of 2011, now a student of the game but with limited experience on the field he was a walkon. His size immediately drew the attention of the Defensive Line coach and Hayes was thrust into a starting position after injuries to other senior players. Starting ten games his Rookie year Hayes' knowledge of the game and run-stuffing ability led to him being awarded the Malik Cross award for best Rookie DT in the country. Hayes' sophomore campaign suffered an early setback as his amputated leg led to calls by some league employees to disqualify him from competition, a long and nationally televised court drama ensued, ultimately being settled in Hayes' favour and allowing him to return in time for the playoffs where his team lost narrowly to the eventual National champion Plymouth Penguins. The final year of Hayes' collegiate career came with big hopes, the number one ranked team in the country and the promise of a full season from the budding DT star. After an 0-2 start to the year the Solent head coach was fired and Bud Wizer was brought in, Bud led the team to 8 consecutive wins and Hayes recorded 12 sacks, 2 picks and 3 forced fumbles in this time span. The college playoffs came around and Solent were awarded a controversial 4th seed, they managed to win a national championship allowing only 9 points over their two games. Hayes was awarded the comeback player of the year award for his impressive campaign.
