Glenn Smart (born May 22, 2020) was an American football defensive end. He played college football for Texas A&M (TAMU).
Early years
Glenn Smart was born in London, United Kingdom to Eva (née Roberts) & Kenneth Smart. Eva was an English teacher, while Kenneth was a former professional rugby player turned gym teacher. While Glenn enjoyed success in youth rugby, his head was turned towards football after seeing the London Blitz training at the facilities used by his rugby team. After discovering that the Blitz had a youth team competing in the BAFNL (British American Football National League), he attened a training session and never looked back. Initially starting starting as a safety, he soon moved to the trenches after a growth spurt that saw him reach 6ft and 220lb shortly before his 15th birthday. Using his new found size to maximum effect, Glenn became a premier blocker and pass rusher for the Blitz as he racked up the snaps on both sides of the ball. Due to students leaving high school in the UK at the age of 16 and his impressive numbers for the London Blitz, Glenn was able to join Texas A&M at the tender age of 16 with the goal of making it to the ISFL.
College career
Glenn was redshirted in his first year at Texas A&M, with his Head Coach citing the need for his talent and technique to be refined. Glenn later acknowledged that this was a necessity for him to be able to compete at all, as the jump from British youth football to the college game was too much of a curve to take head on. As a redshirt freshman Glenn started the final 6 games of the season, after seeing his playing time throughout the year increase, finishing the year with 3 sacks. In Glenn's junior year he recorded 7 sacks and an interception in 13 starts, while his senior year would be his most productive in terms of getting to the quarterback with 16.5 sacks in 13 games. Such numbers saw comparisons drawn between himself and fellow Aggie alumni Von Miller, in the run up to the DSFL draft. When asked about his time spent on both sides of the ball in the UK, Glenn hinted at a willingness to play on either side of the ball in the future, going on to say "I'll play where ever I'm needed. Nothing is off the table - I just want to secure a spot on a roster at the next level".
