Fergus Callaghan Jr. (born May 3, 2017) is an American football defensive tackle who is currently preparing to enter the professional ranks. He played college football for Montana State and has declared his intent to enter the professional ranks next season.

Early years

Fergus Callaghan Jr. was born in Boston, Massachusetts to father Fergus Callaghan Sr a former SCSFL star defensive tackle and mother Mary Callaghan. He was a star defensive tackle at Nashua North High School in Nashua New Hampshire but didn't receive man college offers. He declined the one scholarship offer he received from the University of Massachusetts and instead decided to walk on at the college a friend of his was attending. He moved clear across country to the great state of Montana and walked on with the Montana State Bobcats, it didn't take him long to make a name for himself and ended up getting a full ride scholarship soon after. Fergus was a big man from the start which was surprising since his dad, who was a stand out defensive lineman was only 6 feet tall and weighed only 215 pounds. When he signed up for football his freshman year they tried to make him an offensive lienman but his footwork at the time was too slow and he was getting beaten pretty easily. Just before the start of the season he was converted to defensive tackle and he excelled at it. He wasn't really unblockable by any stretch of the imagination but he was able to get himself into situations where he could eat up a lot of double team which at least allowed the linebackers to make plays. In his sophemore year he found a little bit of foot speed and was able to get off blocks a lot easier but still wasn't much of pass rushing threat but was a great run stopper in his time in high school. He was considered to be one of the best run stoppers in the schools history and made a name for himself as ""The Mad Irishman"" because of his short temper and furosious play.

College career

Fergus Callaghan Jr. was a stand out at the smaller Big Sky school and quickly made a name for himself during his first practice at Montana State. He would play quite a few rotational snaps during his freshman year and would end up earning a scholarship right before the legendary Brawl of The Wild game played against bitter rival, Montana in November of his freshman year. After his freshman year he would assume the role of starting defensive tackle for the team and would go on to earn himself a second team All Big Sky title along with helping his side win the Big Sky championship with a triple overtime win over Montana. His junior year didn't start off well as a nagging knee injury kept him out of most of spring practice. He felt good enough to go once fall practice started up and during the first game of the season against Big Sky foe Eastern Washington, Fergus would end up tearing his ACL in his right knee and would end up missing the rest of the season. Upset by the setback of his knee Fergus got into the weight room and started to bulk up and prepare for his final season at Montana State. He ended up going out and setting the single season record at Montana State in tackles for loss and tackles and helped his side once again claim the Continental Divide trophy with another beating of Montana on the road in Missoula. This season he would end up winning First team All Big Sky honors and even ended up winning the conferences Defensive Lineman of the Year award and cemented himself as one of the best defensive tackles in Montana State history. After college he was unsure on if he wanted to continue playing football or if he wanted to just settle down and live a quite life. His friend that brought him out to Montana encouraged him to keep playing and pointed him in the direction of the ISFL.
