Federico Americano (born August 12, 2035) is an American football linebacker for the Colorado Yeti of the ISFL. He played college football for Oregon State before declaring for the 2056 DSFL Draft (S41).

Early years

Federico Americano was born on August 12 2035 in San Diego, California to mother Luisa and father Armando. He grew up with two older brothers and together the three would spend their time at the local park running and playing sports until the sun went down. The brothers would constantly wind up in trouble or getting into fights with other kids. Their father decided to enroll the three into a summer sports camps to keep the rowdy youngsters busy. His older brothers took well to baseball but Federico was enthralled by the game of football.

The area was filled to the brim with youth sports teams being in a large metro area like San Diego. Federico joined his first youth team at the age of 9 and really started to take things seriously by 12. Early on they rotate you through a bunch of positions and Federico did not have a spot to really stick into. He grew up a fan of the Orange County Otters and finally got his chance to see a game in person when he was 14. His dad took him to the week 8 game against the Chicago Butchers. The Otters lost by one in heartbreaking fashion but the Federico fell in love with the play of Dominos Pizzaman. His hard nose play from behind the defensive line was inspiring to the young teen. He then decided that he wanted to go forward and focus his talents into becoming a linebacker.

College career

Americano was a three star recruit coming out of high school and committed to Oregon State University. He would spend the next three seasons as a Beaver playing in the FBS. As a true freshman, he found himself on the bench to start the season and got his first taste of game action in week 3. He proved his worth and got the opportunity to start the next five games. Unfortunately his season would but cut short with an ankle injury that put him out for the remainder of the year. Americano would come back from injury and start the every game for the next two seasons. He primarily lined up as the middle linebacker and was a huge failsafe for the Beavers defense. His presence was felt in every game as he would lead the team in total tackles both seasons. He also stepped up his vertical game and knocked nine pass deflections and collected two picks. The Beavers were unfortunately not in the best shape during his time with the team so they found themselves always on the outside looking in when it came to the playoffs. Following his junior season, Americano made the decision to forgo his senior season and declare for the DSFL draft.

DSFL

2056

This year Americano would make his DSFL debut with the Norfolk Seawolves. I guess they liked what they were seeing after the waiver wire pickup the season before. Norfolk drafted the linebacker in the second round of the draft and would line him up on the interior throughout the season. Americano proved to be a tackle machine and was a key piece of the Seawolves defense. He would line up next to veteran Terry Johnson who became his defensive mentor of sorts. The two were absolute machines and certainly were vying for a spot on the all pro team at the end of the year. Unfortunately, neither got the nod but Americano would see himself on the defensive rookie of the year ballot. A fellow linebacker in Aleksander Kovic would take home the prize but the nod alone was enough to satisfy the rookie. Draft day would soon roll around and Americano was selected 4th overall to the Colorado Yeti. There were rumblings of him maybe being called up but the young linebacker would find himself back in Norfolk for another year.

2057

Americano's role on the defense shifted this year and to great success. The linebacker was originally lined up inside but made the shift to the left outside spot on the line. Americano was an absolute beast at this position and finished the year leading the entire league in tackles. He also tied for second in most tackles for loss, putting up a staggering 14 along with 8 sacks. It was safe to say that the quarterbacks that year were quite under pressure once that ball was snapped. The rest of the team did not slack at all, ending up as the number one seed going into the playoffs. The Seawolves decimated Tijuana in the first round and moved on to the Ultimini where they would face long time franchise the Minnesota Grey Ducks. The game started off all Ducks with them storming out to a 17 to 0 lead. Norfolk would put up 7 of their own before halftime. The team rallied behind the halftime speech of captain Boudreaux and stormed the field to put up 17 unanswered to seal the victory and take home the trophy. Americano celebrated with his teammates knowing that he would be moving on up to Colorado in the following season. His name was spread all over the awards ballot and likely will walk away an All Pro player.

ISFL

2058

Federico Americano made his ISFL debut this season. He came out fast from the get go, notching two sacks and a forced fumble that almost got taken back for a touchdown but he was tackled mere inches short of the goal line. The team ultimately lost the game but the future was bright on the defensive side of the ball for the young football team. The young rookie linebacker showed up big time during the regular season. He found himself leading the pack of defensive rookies a good portion of the season in stats like sacks, forced fumbles, and tackles for loss. He was paired alongside other rookie linebacker RE 38 and the two played off each other incredibly well. The squad found themselves making an insane run to finish the season and nabbing that third playoff spot in the conference off of a slew of tie breakers no less. They would be bounced in the first round in a blowout to the favorited Cape Town Crash, but the future of the Yeti were here and showing they have what it takes. Americano would go on to win Defensive Rookie of the Year with fellow Yeti Synystyr Gates taking the runner up spot.

2059

You could say that Americano experienced some level of sophomore slump. He was not nearly as quick out the gate statistically to start the season. The young Yeti defense regressed a bit to the mean this season with the team as a whole falling back to earth from their cinderella run the year previous. Americano could not produce the same amount of sacks as he did his rookie year but found improvement on every other front. He eclipsed the century mark for tackles for the first time and lead the team in tackles, forced fumbles, and sacks. It was clear that Americano was the best player on the defense this year. With the amount of aging veterans on this team, the youngsters will have to step up with Americano being their leader for the foreseeable future. One might wonder if he may don the C come the start of the 2060 season. He certainly appears to have earned it with his play and overall demeanor on and off the field.
