Dexter Zaylren (born July 2, 2020) is an American football quarterback who is currently preparing to enter the professional ranks.He played college football for Maine University and has declared his intent to enter the professional ranks next season.

Early years

Dexter Zaylren was born February 2nd, 2019 to Jeremy and Serena Zaylren as the couple were on a vacation to Niagara Falls, New York. After a short hospital stay, the couple and their newborn child returned to their hometown of Bangor, Maine and Dexter's life began. It became clear very early in Dexter's life that he would be a star of some kind. We was an intelligent child and would not let any kind of competition come around without giving it a stab. Whether it be a fishing competition or a race with the kids in the schoolyard, young Dexter was the definition of a wonder child. As he grew to the age of 10, he wanted to play baseball and football, so his parents signed him up for the loval flag football team. Dexter was immediately the best player on the team and the most vehement competitor. He threw passes more accurate than anyone had seen in ages, and after two seasons, the parents heeded the advice of the local high school coach and moved to Vermont's capital city where Dexter begain playing elementary team. He was pegged as a TE at first due to his unnatural size, but quickly showed off his arm and accuracy and was made the starting QB in his 7th grade year. When he got to high school, he seemed to simply ignite. He had ridiculous seasons, surpassing 3200 yards in all 4 years and throwing increasing numbers of touchdowns. As a fresman he led the team to a loss in the semifinals of the state championship on the back of 3291 yards and a 31:5 TD:INT ratio. He improved in yardage each season thereafter and never lost another state championship. Going into signing season, he was ranked the 2nd best QB in the NE region and had offers from many Big 12 and Big 10 teams, but chose eventually to go to Maine University to be near his parents, who had decided to move back to their original hometown of Bangor once Dexter graduated high school.

College career

At Maine University, Dexter's career was unmemorable. He sat on the bench his freshman season being mentored by the senior QB, and in his sophomore season disaster struck for the first time. He was in a car accident 3 days before the first game of the season and broke his throwing arm. He chose to redshirt that season to retain eligibilty and did not play at all, but continued to be a top-tier QB. The next season, Dexter played 3 games and 10 minutes, and did exceptionally well. He was generating Heisman buzz all the way up to his season-ending ACL tear, throwing for 1188 yards and ten TDs without throwing a pick. After his injury, Dexter did not return to the field until the 5th game of his RS junior season, when he came in as a relief for the transfer QB Jeremiah Sines after a particularly horrid performance and blew it up. He played the remaining 7 games of the season with gusto, throwing for 348 yards per game and scoring 18 touchdowns to 3 interceptions. They won every game and went on to upset Texas A&M in the Alamo City bowl. Following the season, Dexter made the difficult decision to join the Developmental Simulation Football League rather than return to Maine, as the Maine coach went to accept an offer from Temple University and the new coach was brand new to the world of head coaching. Dexter currently awaits being drafted.

Professional career

In season 33, Dexter had his worst statistical season to date. As star running back Goat Tank dominated early in the season, Zaylren took more of a secondary role as Tank was allowed to run all over the field. While recording his highest completion percentage so far in his short 3 season career, that was the only positive. Dexter had career-worsts in yards per attempt, touchdown and interception percentages, yards, attempts, completions, and touchdowns. After his once in a lifetime MVP sophomore season, Dexter was left off awards ballots for the first time in his career.

As Zaylren struggled, his team was left out of the playoffs. Tank fell off towards the end of the season, and Zaylren did pick up the pace and save the season from being totally disastrous, winning their must win games to put the Fire Salamanders at 8-7 going into week 16. Colorado and Chicago both sat at 9-7, and a three-way 9-7 tie would put the Fire Salamanders into the third playoff spot on division record. Zaylren and the Salamanders did their job in a 30-20 win over Baltimore, and Colorado fell to first seed Sarasota, but Chicago was victorious over Philadelphia 37-13 to put Berlin in the 4th seed just out of the playoffs. The next season would bring many changes for Zaylren's career, and he looked forward to entering a new season with a fresh start.

Season 34 was a whirlwind for Dexter. During the draft, he was traded from Berlin along with a third round selection to Honolulu for a first round selection and former Hahalua quarterback Joilet Christ Jr. Dexter took a decently long time to get acclimated and struggled quite a bit. In five separate games, Dexter threw 3 interceptions, and in two other games Dexter wasn't able to throw for a touchdown or an interception. He finished the season with 29 touchdowns and 21 interceptions, which nearly doubled his total of 24 from his 3 seasons in Berlin. However, on the other hand, Dexter did have a hell of a game in week 11, throwing for 480 yards and 5 touchdowns in a victory en route to an award for the offensive performance of the year across the league. However, despite Dexter's interception woes, the Honolulu Hahalua went 11-5 and won the ASFC, taking second in the league to the Chicago Butchers' 12-4. After a first round bye, Honolulu defeated Arizona in the conference championship, and despite a valiant 399 yard, 3 touchdown, 0 interception, 122.6 rating performance from the signal caller, the Hahalua fell 33-27 to the Butchers in Ultimus 34. The game was one of the best Ultimus of all time according to many sources, and the game fell down to a rushing touchdown by Butchers RB Madison Hayes with less than two minutes remaining in overtime to seal the deal.

In 2050 (S35), the turn of the half century and potentially the turn of Dexter's career after undergoing his first regression, Dexter jumped back to the heights of his rookie season. He turned in a very respectable 34:9 TD:INT ratio, and along with a 100+ rating and over 4000 yards, had overall a season that would ultimately fall just short of awards. However, Dexter would pick up his second pro bowl appearance, sitting second string to eventual MVP Wendell Sailor. Dexter led the team to a 13-3 regular season record, the best of his career thus far. Dexter and the offense were overpowered but never quite turned on their stardom to truly run games. Two notable exceptions were a 59-3 thrashing of New York in week 3 and a 43-5 dismantling of Austin in week 5. The defense truly led the team to the best record in the league. Then, in the playoffs, the Hahalua beat San Jose 40-7 in the bye game, and Arizona took care of Orange County to take a trip down to Hawai'i. In the ensuing Conference Championship game, Zaylren took care of the ball and threw 2 touchdowns, which on the back of a 5.8 YPC day from retiring RB Cobra Kai, was enough to ensure the Hahalua would advance with a score of 26-20. Then, in the Ultimus Bowl held in Cote d'Ivorie, Zaylren had a very very quiet day against a strong Baltimore defense. Cobra Kai would have another excellent day in his final day, however, rolling for 6 YPC and 2 touchdowns en route to Honolulu's second Ultimus Trophy in a 24-13 win.

Season 36 was not Dexter's best season. Similar to Season 35, the offense truly struggled to get the ball rolling and relied largely on the defense to win games. Dexter ended up with 31 touchdowns to 10 interceptions, which was not as good as he would have liked but certainly was not bad. He only threw for 3334 yards, however, and combined with the worst completion percentage of his career to date, posted the second lowest passer rating of his career at 94.5. Despite Dexter's inability to truly break out, Honolulu ended the season at 11-5 as the first seed in the ASFC, and awaited the victor of the wildcard matchup between the second seed San Jose Sabercats and third seed Arizona Outlaws. In an upset victory on the road, the Outlaws were able to oust the Sabercats and move on to the conference championship. However, in true Outlaw fashion, they were felled by the Hahalua 38-17 and their season brought to a halt. On the other side of the league, the Sarasota Sailfish took care of business against third seed Yellowknife, then rolled to a 22-2 victory against the top seed Chicago Butchers. This led to FisheBowl Ultimus, in which through a hard fought and down to the wire battle, the Honolulu Hahalua were able to secure a 31-28 victory and win their second consecutive ISFL title.
