Deshun Jones (born July 3, 2013) is an American football defensive tackle for the Orange County Otters of the National Simulation Football League (NSFL).

Early years

Jones attended Minkler High School in Minkler, California, where he played high school football for the Minks. Jones early high school career was met with adversity as stood 6 foot 6 inch at 160 pounds. He was known in high school as Scrawny Deshawny, until his Senior year he bulked up to 260 pounds on a regimen of uncrustables and daily squats.

Jones started his first 3 years of high school football as a cornerback due to his height, but was always stuck as a 2nd or 3rd string player due to his inability to keep up with quick wide receivers. Jones was able to earn the starting spot his senior year after starting his new regimen after his dissapointing Junior year performance. As he transitioned to his new Defensive Tackle position his senior year, his performance was average until he adjusted to his new role and dominated the last 5 games of the season averaging close to 3 sacks a game.

College career

Due to his late high school success, Jones had to try out as a walk on at Cal Poly SLO. Intrigued by his stature and strength, the coaches were eager to see what he could do. In his tryout, Jones knocked over every single center and interior linemen faced up against Jones during the tryout scrimmages. He immediately earned a starting spot as a true freshman. Jones dominated the offensive lines he faced from the beginning averaging 3.5 tackles per game and 0.9 sacks per game even though he was often double and even tripled teamed against.

Jones had a opportunity his Junior year for a run at the FCS championship, until his teammate Fee Dord lined up offsides in the semi-finals causing a game-winning interception to be called back.

Jones is confident in finding success in the NSFL like others before him who attended non-FBS schools such as Jerry Rice and Michael Strahan.

Professional career

Deshun Jones declared his intentions to join play professional football and was entered into the DSFL draft in season 21. The DSFL season 21 draft was the largest draft in NSFL history with 271 eligible players. Jones who would easily be a first round pick in most other drafts was expected to fall a few rounds into the draft. Jones was drafted in the fourth round with the 26th overall pick to the new expansion team, Dallas Birddogs. Jones was the fifth defensive tackle taken in the draft.

Dallas Birddogs

2036 (S21)

Prior to Jones' first year, he was expected to play a utilitarian role on the defensive line, stopping both the running and passing games. While Jones had a decent pass rush during his first year, he ended up being known as the run stopper for the Birddogs. Jones' started in all 14 DSFL games recording 32 tackles, 3 TFLs, and 4 sacks. Jones shared the lead in TFLs and sacks for Rookies defensive tackles with Mo' Magic and was 4th in tackles for rookie defensive tackles. Between Deshun Jones and Big Edd, Dallas was considered to have the best rookie interior line in the DSFL with a combined 84 tackles, 4 TFLs, and 7 sacks. Being placed on an expansion team and having a disadvantage with less experienced player, Jones and the Birddogs did make it to the playoffs losing four straight games at the end of the season taking them out of playoff contention. At the end of the season, Jones is expected to be drafted in either the 2nd or 3rd round in the NSFL draft as well as play in the NSFL in his first year of NSFL eligibility.

Orange County

2037 (S22)

Deshun Jones was drafted to the Orange County Otters in the third round at the 34th overall pick of the 22nd NSFL draft. Jones was predicted to be a top five defensive tackle to be drafted in the 2nd or 3rd round among a fierce competition not from just the other defensive tackles among the draft but from the other 283 draftees in the biggest draft the NSFL has ever seen. Jones ended up being drafted as the 6th defensive tackle after Big "Snacks" Edd was drafted in the second round also by the Otters. It was a surprise among many news pundits that Jones was drafted to Orange County after Edd was drafted as Jones would be the third defensive tackle on the team behind Rapid Eagle and Big Edd. However, when the official rosters were release that year, it was announced that Jones would instead become a starting linebacker for the upcoming season and that Jones had lost 70 lbs during the off-season by instituting a 23/1 fast schedule. That is fast for 23 days, eat for 1.

Jones would show how flexible of a player he is on the field by having a solid first season as a linebacker. In his first season as a linebacker, Jones would put up 95 tackles, 2 TFLs, 2 forced fumbles, and 4 sacks. While this would not earn Jones with any accolades as rookie of the year, linebacker of the year, or pro-bowler, he would put up competitive numbers with players in his class with years of experience at the position.

2038 (S23)

Deshun Jones entered his second year attempting to overcome the Sophomore slump and had high hopes to make a run for line backer of the year even though this was his second season ever playing as a line backer. Even though Jones did not earn any awards for his performance in this season, he was quite proud of his performance. Deshun Jones recorded a fairly typical amount of tackles for a linebacker at 90 tackles. And although Deshun Jones did not record any tackles for losses, he was able to record 7 sacks with one of those sacks coming in the semi-finals against the Austin Copperheads which had taken the Copperheads out of field goal range and keeping the score tied in the middle of the third quarter. In the same vein Jones did not record any interceptions during the season, but was able to record 15 pass deflections putting him near the top for line backers. When asked about Jones pass coverage performance at the end of the season, Jones responded that will only motivate him to do even better next season as he knows he can't let up knowing that he has never had an interception.

While Jones strives for fame and recognition as a way to keep him motivated, Jones mentioned after the devastating loss against the Copperheads in the semi-finals that individual performance really does not mean anything if your team doesn't share in the success. Jones had high hopes to go back to the Ultimus and face the Wraiths again after the other devastating loss that the Otters faced in the previous season when they lost to the Wraiths after having a comfortable lead.

2039 (S24)

Jones entered his third season assuming the role of seasoned veteren after the longtime line backer for the Orange County Otters, Lanzer Grievous, played his last season in 2038. Jones was the captain of the linebacker squad leading inspectah deck and the up and coming rookie, Joseph Joestar. Deshun Jones was ready to make this year to accomplish many of his career goals. Those goals being to make an interception during the regular season (as he doesn't count his preseason interception), return a defensive turnover into a touchdown, and claim an award for his on the field accomplishments, and last but not least, win the Ultimus before bringing up Suleiman Ramza who will take at least a year for Ramza to learn Laser's offensive scheme. Unfortunately Jones was not able to accomplish any of his goals this season. However, fortunately for Jones, he is still in his prime with still a few more season before age starts affecting his performance. At the end of the season, Jones told the press that he really needs to work on his intelligence and endurance. Jones feels like he still has a lot to learn. He feels like if he can learn both Quarterback and Running back tendencies for each team that he would be able to better know what will happen after the snap before the snap even happens. In terms of endurance, he also told the press that quite often he feels gassed by the fourth quarter and is not able to make the plays he needs to allowing other teams, especially those with experienced quarterbacks to march down the field.
