Childish Gambino (born December 3, 1997) is an American football defensive end for the Baltimore Hawks of the National Simulation Football League (NSFL). He played college football for Clemson University (Clemson) before being drafted by the Baltimore Hawks in the 2023 ISFL Draft (S8). Prior to this, he had been drafted by the Kansas City Coyotes in the 2022 DSFL Draft (S7).

Early years

Childish Gambino was born in Atlanta, Georgia to parents Alesha and Victor Gambino. His mother, Alesha, was a former collegiate softball player who made a name for herself at Mid Tennessee State University and his father, Victor, was a former defensive back at Georgia Tech university, who went on to play 4 seasons in the NFL with the Baltimore Ravens and Jacksonville Jaguars. From a young age, the life skills needed to make it as a professional athlete were enstilled in Gambino. As a member of the Booker T. Washington football team, Gambino showed flashes of excellence his first three seasons, but it was in his senior season when he really opened up, not only the eyes of his coaches, but the eyes of scouts from all the major universties around the country. Notching 17 sacks and 73 tackles his season season brought the scouts from Clemson University. Backed on the promise that Dabo Sweeny would take care of their boy, and give him the education on and off the football field that he still needed, Gambino and his parents knew that Clemson would be the perfect fit for him.

College career

Knowing he had a full ride scholarship and the pressure of needng to perform at a D1 level, Gambino was not his normal self and it showed on the field. The coaches ultimetly decided that while Gambino would make the team, it would be best to redshirt him for his Freshman year. Slightly disapointed, but knowing he did it to himself, Gambino turned things around and was an absolute beast on the practice field all season, as well as in the classroom. Gambino would finish with a 3.7 GPA his freshman year, and no stats, but took the things he learned during his freshman season back to Atlanta with him. Having now caught the eyes of local celebrities, Gambino hooked up with Atlanta Falcons linebacker, Vic Beasley, who worked with Gambino in the summer. When he returned to Clemson for his sophomore year the coaches were very impressed with the gains he showed, not only in muscle mass, but his game as well. He made the team and was named a starter for the Tigers heading into their season opener. Gambino notched 7 sacks and 32 tackles on the season to go along with 1 forced fumble. His Junior year he officially put the NFL scouts on notice as he became an absolute force to be reckoned with as he recorded 18 sacks, 64 tackles, 2 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery, and even an interception on the season as Clemson took home the National Championship and Gambino heard his name called as the seasons winner for the Chuck Bednarik Award, given out to the Nations best Defensive player. The NFL was calling his name, but Gambino shocked the world as he decided to snub the NFL and declare for the DSFL/NSFL, an up-and-coming new football league.

DSFL career

Having gotten into some trouble the offseason ahead of the DSFL draft, Gambino was not eligible for the DSFL draft in Season 6, but instead walked on to the Kansas City Coyotes team ahead of their playoff push. He saw limited action in his limited time with Kansas City. For the Season 7 draft, Gambino was fully eligble and finally found himself surrounded by the hype that comes with being drafted into the next phase of his life. Kansas City selected Gambino with the third overall pick in the draft. In his first full season in the DSFL, Gambino showed us his work ethic that had gotten him into Clemson and caught the attentions of all those scouts only a few years ago. Taking notice were now many of the scouts in the NSFL. Gambino finished the season with 78 tackles, 5 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, and 1 fumble recovery. The NSFL draft was on the horizon and Gambino had put the league on notice that he had arrived.

NSFL S8 Draft Combine

Ahead of the NSFL draft, there was plenty of talk about where Gambino would land. At one point his name was as low as the second round, and to as high as the first overall pick. With the spotlight on him, Gambino was ready to shine no matter where he landed. The first three picks came and went without Gambino hearing his name called, but he didnt show any emotion of being distraught or mad, a fact that Baltimore Management said impressed them. With the fourth pick in the Season 8 draft, Childish Gambino finally heard his name called as he became professional football player as a member of the Baltimore Hawks, the same city his father had first become a pro all those years ago. Gambino struggled his entire season, but he didnt let up with his work ethic at all, continuing to max his practice hours weekly. Gambino finished the season with only 22 tackles and 4 sacks. While that kind of debut may have disappointed many, it has motivated Gambino even more to work harder and come back better than ever in Season 9 and beyond.
