Chathack'rius Smith IV (born June 7, 2001) is an American football safety who is currently preparing to enter the professional ranks. He played college football for Nebraska (UNL) and has declared his intent to enter the professional ranks next season.

Early years

Smith IV was a force to be reckon with on both sides of the ball in high school, dominating as a WR on offense and a safety on defense. His top end speed and his vertical jump made up for his average height and allowed him to beat defenders, and offenders, for jump balls. His senior year Smith IV posted 1,954 receiving yards on 112 catches, scoring 20 TD, and averaging close to 140 yards per game. Along with those stellar offensive numbers, Smith IV put up 16 PD, 46 total tackles, and a whopping 19 interceptions as a safety. Those 19 interceptions and 4 fumble recoveries accounted for 12 defensive TDs for Smith, leading him to be named the number 1 safety in the country. When his senior year was over Smith IV had accounted for 35 total TDs (he added a couple of rushing and return TD) for his team en route to a Colorado state championship.

College career

A starter at the ripe age of 18, Smith IV, as a freshman, burst onto the scene in the second half of Nebraska's season. Originally he was going to redshirt, but injuries forced him into a starting role by week 7. Starting off slowly Smith IV really made a name for himself in the 10th game, vs #13 Wisconsin. The Badgers were trying to pick on the freshman early and he made them pay when he returned the 3rd pass of the game 64 yards to the endzone for a pick-six. They targeted him a couple of more times that game on deep pases and Smith IV ended the game with 1 INT, 3 PD, 3 tackles, and 1 TD. Guided by rejuvenated play at safety the Huskers finished the year going 3-0 and a conference championship birth. In the Championship game, Smith IV had another marvelous performance, 6 PD, 4 tackles, and 1 FF. To go along with that Smith IV capped the game off with a pick-six, killing any hope #6 Ohio State had. Smith IV, as a sophmore, got the starting nod immediately out of camp and showed the Huskers that they made the right choice. Key performances and clutch interceptions led the Huskers to an undefeated record along with another Big 10 championship. It seemed as if Smith IV's performance just increased the later the season went on and the brighter the lights got. Smith IV capped off another stellar season with 2 pick-sixes in the National Championship game, the latter his 7th on the season breaking the NCAA record. His 14 points scored proved the difference as Nebraska defeated Alabama 32-18 to win their first National Championship since 1997.
