Charles Chapman (born June 10, 2027) was an American football cornerback for the Baltimore Hawks of the International Simulation Football League (ISFL).

Early years

Charles Chapman was born in Morgantown, West Virginia, as of 5 children to father David Chapman, a local electrician, and mother Teresa Chapman (née Roberts), a homemaker. Charles described himself as a 'highly active kid" always playing outside with his siblings, but that he "wasn't as active in academics". In Middle School, Charles was a competent athlete, participating in Track & Field, Basketball, and Football. During this time he struggled to stay academically focused juggling the three extracurriculars and decided to focus on Football, dropping the others in order to study. He attended Morgantown High School and continued to solely play Football as an extracurricular sport, with tutoring after practice and during the off-season to keep up. He stated "as much as I would have liked to continue to playing the other sports, I had to make sacrifices to keep playing the one sport I loved". In Morgantown High School he lettered in Football, playing as both Defensive End and Right Guard.

College career

Charles was not a highly recruited athlete coming out of high school, and although West Virginia University was close by, he decided to attend Slippery Rock University. During his Freshmen year, Charles played his first half of the season as a starting defensive end. An unexpected increase in weight deteriorated his performance, causing him to be benched and moved to reserve defensive tackle for the rest of the season. Although demoralizing, Charles consistently kept up with the workouts and did not lose hope that he could re-acquire a starting position with The Rock. His hard work did eventually pay off the following year, and Charles was able to move to a starting Defensive Tackle position beginning his Sophomore year and held that until his Senior year, where his Slippery Rock career was complete. Charles Chapman graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting. Charles decided to spend several months after graduation in order to improve himself to play Football professionally.

Professional career

DSFL career

Season 34

Shortly after Week 12 of the 34th Season of the DSFL, the Bondi Beach Buccaneers picked Charles Chapman off waivers. Chapman got his first start for the Buccaneers during Week 13 against the Tijuana Luchadores, finishing the Buccaneer's victory with one tackle. During Week 14, the last game of the Buccaneers season, Chapman got one tackle in a loss against the Minnesota Grey Ducks.

After the completion of Season 34, Chapman was dropped by the Bondi Beach Buccaneers in preparation for the Season 35 DSFL Draft. Going into his first full season, Charles was quoted "I was very happy to be able to join the Buccaneers for those last couple of games, I learned a lot from my experiences there and will be putting all of that into making a proper introduction for my first full season."

Chapman has been making sure to add plenty of speed and agility drills in order to fill gaps and chase down his opposition quicker.

Season 35

For the 2050 DSFL Draft, the Dallas Birddogs selected Charles Chapman in the 2nd Round at Pick 16.

Chapman played in and started all 14 games of the regular season with the Birddogs. He was a major improvement with his skills set accruing 52 tackles across the 14 games, along with 4 sacks and a forced fumble. Charles heavily credited his teammates both in the Bondi Beach Buccaneers and the Birddogs for his improvements in defensive play and play recognition. The Birddogs ended with a 3-11 record and did not make the playoffs. The Birddogs placed last in all league Defensive metrics, aside from Rushing Defense, which they placed seventh of eight. Charles has stated that this will be a major motivation in the coming season.

For the 2051 ISFL Draft, the New Orleans Second Line selected Charles Chapman in the 3rd Round at Pick 32. For the 2051 Season, Chapman will be playing alongside his Birddog teammates with high hopes.

Season 36

Chapman was not called up to play with the New Orleans Second Line for the 2051 Season and continued to be a part of the Birddog's Defensive Line.

Chapman started all 14 games of the regular season with the Birddogs and continued his fairly stable play with them, retaining a similar stat-line as with the 35th Season. While seeing a decrease in total tackles, sacks, and an increase in missed tackles, Chapman did double the amount of Tackles for Loss this season, from four to eight. One highlight game for Chapman was the Week 9 game against the Bondi Beach Buccaneers where Chapman reached a record high of three Tackle for Losses against his former team.

Unfortunately the Birddog's ended with a 3-11 record and did not make the playoffs. The Birddog's did see an improvement in their defense stats compared to their previous season, no longer placing last in the majority of the defensive metrics.

Chapman was placed into the Season 36 DSFL All-Pro team for his play as a Defensive Tackle. As one member of the committee put it, "Charles was the only Defensive Tackle to actually play his position". Chapman commented on his Twitter Feed that "A win on a technicality is still a win".

Chapman was not called up to play with the New Orleans Second Line for the 37th Season, and will continue to play for the Birddogs.

Season 37

Charles Chapman played his third season with the Dallas Birddogs.

Chapman started all 14 games of the regular season and the single Playoff game that the Birddogs played. He continued to be a foundation for the Birddogs' Defense with consistent performance across all games, and reaching a high of 55 tackles in the season with zero missed tackles across the season.

Seeing a large improvement over last season, the Birddogs reached a record of 7 wins and 7 losses, making the playoffs but unfortunately losing in the first round. Chapman believes that under the current leadership, the Birddogs will continue to see a rise in performance in the coming seasons.

Chapman, along with his Birddogs GM Bay Webb, was elected to the DSFL First Team Defense S37 All-Pro Team. About this election Chapman had this to say: "I wonder if I was elected for being the only player in my position like last year."

Unfortunately, this was Chapman's final eligible season with the Birddogs, and will continue his career with the ISFL New Orleans Second Line. Chapman has been working towards and impressive start with the Second Line and will be looking forward to his future opportunities in the ISFL.

Season 38

Season 38 was Charles Chapman's first season in the ISFL and his first season playing for the New Orleans Second Line.

Unfortunately his first season was a fairly mediocre one, not making any significant statistical impact for the team, especially with the amount of time spent in the developmental leagues. He recorded only 38 tackles, 3 Tackles for Loss, 4 Sacks, and 4 Missed Tackles. He recorded his season high 5 Tackles in the Week 9 game against the Fire Salamanders, his season high 2 Tackles for Loss in the Week 11 game against the Outlaws. Chapman was very disappointed with this season, stating that he wished he could do more for his team and reach a better record.

Chapman has focused his offseason work on developing his traits including the ability to get off the line faster and spot the runner to force a tackle. Secondline has the ISFL Ultimus and their sights for Season 39 and Charles wants to make sure they reach that goal together.

Season 39

Charles Chapman saw a huge increase in his success with his second season with the New Orleans Second Line.

He recorded 44 tackles, 1 Tackle for Loss, 2 Forced Fumbles (with no recovered Fumbles), and 7 sacks. This was enough for Charles to be named to the Season 39 2nd Team All-Pro for Defensive Tackles. He attributes much of this success to his fellow Defensive players, along with the Team's ability to scheme him these opportunities. With Season 39 being his last guaranteed contract year with the Second Line, Charles hopes to bring a big enough impact to show NOLA that they will want his presence both on the field and in the locker room.

Chapman is hoping that his offseason work will bring his to the peak of his physical ability, and that he will attempt to set records for the Second Line, and the ISFL as a whole. He feels very good about reaching the Ultimus in the next two seasons and wants to bring the trophy to New Orleans.

Season 40

For Season 40, the New Orleans Second Line saw a shift in their defensive philosophy, with key defensive personnel shifts, a focus on defending the pass, and a switch to the 3-4 Defensive Scheme. With these changes, Chapman was placed as the solo Nose Tackle Defensive End for the NOLA Defensive Line. This change in philosophy reward the Second Line, being the overall best defense against the pass in the league.

Unfortunately while the Second Line expected an Ultimus run, they did not make the playoffs for this season, with a disappointing result of six wins and ten losses. While their pass defense was elite, the Second Line was mediocre in all other facets of the game, especially in offensive Points per Game and offensive yards per game.

Chapman saw an increase in tackles, but a decrease in his sacks, showing a loss of play-making ability compared to Season 39. He will remain as the solo Nose Tackle for his Defensive Line and intends to improve his ability to stop the run, improving his teams chances of reaching their goal.

Season 41

Charles Chapman was traded to the Baltimore Hawks early in the 41st season of the ISFL, and was tasked with making a shift towards a Defensive Back position. Along with this shift in position, Charles saw equal as both the Nose Tackle and the End of the defensive line for the Hawks. With this was an increase in notable stats such as Tackles and Sacks, but also decreased efficiency with more Missed Tackles.

His newly found team also did not make the playoffs, with an initial run of three losses, the Hawks only saw periodic success through the season with a final result of six wins and ten losses. The Hawks ultimately did have a strong offense, with a second overall Passing Offense, but lacked in all other aspects of Offense and Defense.

With Charles approaching the peak of his career, and seeing both a change of location and assignment, there is a major sense of unknown that he is facing. He believes that his team will only improve from here on, with his goal to see the playoffs within the next two season. After that, its only Charles who will know where he will be.

Season 42

Season 42 of the ISFL saw a major shift for Chapman, both in body and in position on the field; He shed his weight in order to become a cornerback for the Baltimore Hawks. Chapman was able to show his tackling prowess, accruing 100 tackles through the season, but did not meet expectations seeing a zero interception, and generally not being a very major pass defense threat.

The Baltimore Hawks did see some major improvements overall, eventually leading their conference with a 11 win and 5 loss record, becoming the first seed in the playoffs. The first game in the playoffs, the Hawks faced the Yellowknife Wraiths and won with a 31 to 20 point victory. In that win, Chapman again showed off his ability to tackle, but not defend the pass. The Hawks would go on to face the Berlin Fire Salamanders in the Conference Championship, losing to their major in-season rival in a 10 to 24 point loss.

With this upcoming season Chapman has mixed feelings, he is becoming accustomed to his new position, but is also feeling the effects of age slow him down. He hopes that he will be able to benefit his team more for the 43rd season and win them an Ultimus like he feels they should have earned in their 42nd season.
