Cameron Taylor (born December 26, 1997) is an American football safety for the Yellowknife Wraiths of the National Simulation Football League (NSFL). He played college football for University of Michigan (Michigan) before being drafted by the Yellowknife Wraiths in the 2020 ISFL Draft (S5). Prior to this, he had been drafted by the Portland Pythons in the 2019 DSFL Draft (S4).

Early years

Cameron Taylor was born in Windsor, Ontario, Canada and as most young Candian kids grow up, pushed into hockey at a young age. Through his junior career in hockey, Cameron learned a few things that would shape how his NSFL career progressed: hard work and grit. Hockey bring out the grittiness in the best of people and that's how Cameron Taylor has defined his NSFL career. The stats aren't there, but he makes plays when they need to be made. It was in grade 10 of high school that the football coach came to a hockey game and saw the physicality and size Cameron brought to the ice and invited him out for football tryouts. Cameron would continue to play hockey and football his entire highschool career.

College career

Entering college, Cameron had many suitors for athletic scholarships, both on the rink and on the football field. Michigan wanted him really badly and it was close to home so Cameron was pretty set on the University of Michigan. Now the hard choice came, to decide between a very prestigious hockey program, or the historic Wolverines football program. Eventually, Cameron made the decision to join the football team only, being a two sport athlete would be too distracting, but he would still do his off season training with the Wolverines hockey team. Cameron eventually graduated from the University of Michigan with a Biomedical sciences degree and ended his Wolverine career being named the defensive captain of the team.

DSFL career

Entering the 2019 (S4) season, Cameron was an unknown commodity. His stats at Michigan weren't eye popping so he fell to the 4th round of the S4 DSFL Draft. Luckily, he was snagged by a great organisation in the Portland Pythons by a championship caliber team with a hole at safety. Who knew things could end up so perfectly. It was in Portland where Cameron defined himself as a player. The stats continued to evade him, but he anchored the DSFL's best defence and led that S4 Pythons team to an Ultimini Championship as a rookie. It was a short tenure in Portland, but he still has many ties to the Pythons and his old teammates because that season was magical.

NSFL 2020 Draft Combine

Winning the Ultimini had GMs finally recognizing more than just stats. GMs want winners. So in the following the 2020 ISFL Draft (S5), 3 out of the top 4 picks were Portland Python players, with Cameron Taylor being picked by the Yellowknife Wraiths at #4 overall. Being a Canadian kid, Cameron could not be happier at the idea of playing in Canada and getting paid to do it, even if it is way up north. But arriving in Yellowknife changed his mind on the North. Yellowknife has one of the best fanbases, stadiums, and jerseys. Not to mention that his fellow teammates took him in and made him part of a championship winning squad that went on to win the Ultimus in 2023 (S8). Now there was heartbreak in some season, like being the #1 seed at 13-3 and falling to a lowly Liberty team in the first round of the playoffs in 2022 (S7), but Cameron has thoroughly enjoyed his time in Yellowknife and wish father time would slow down and give him a couple more seasons.
