Brian Nelson (born April 7, 1996) is an American football safety for the Norfolk Seawolves of the Developmental Simulation Football League (DSFL).

Early years

Brain Nelson was born in Traverse City, Michigan. His mother a bank manager and father a local doctor encouraged him to sports. His father having player football all throughout high school as a defense lineman pushed for him to player. While Nelson enjoyed football, his passion was for basketball in high school. Though he quickly realized the potential he had in football given he was only 6’1. His senior year he fully devoted himself to football. His senior year Nelson played defense back and wide receiver where he helped to lead his team to an entrance into the playoffs. Unfortunately, they feel short and lost to Rockford.

Even in the lost his athleticism stood out at Traverse City West. Though he did not impress any top end D1 school due to his lack of technique. He did manage to catch some eyes of coach that saw the raw potential such as Central Michigan University.

Nelson to this day often returns home to his high school to help with camps and train the next generation in the second round.

College career

Entering college Nelson found his way onto special teams in this first two years. The coach while impressed with athleticism need more strength and tackling from him. After two years of training he finally earned a starting stop his junior year. He started the season split reps at the safety position. Nelson instantly start to improve and caught the coach’s eye. Halfway through the year he earned the starting safety spot. By the end of his junior year he had becoming one of the best defense backs in the MAC. Entering his senior there were high hope for him and the defense unit. Nelson led the team in pass deflections and was a menace in the running game where he was one of the team’s top tacklers. He helped led CMU to one of their best defensive years and a bowl game. In the New Mexico Bowl Nelson came up huge with a 4th quarter interception which helped to seal the victory for CMU. His impressive year landed him a spot on the All-MAC First Team Defense.

Nelson also was a dedicated student graduating with a major in Computer Science. While he had dreams of making the DSFL he was not creating a lot of waves in war rooms. His dream was finally realized when he was drafted 124th by the Norfolk Seawolves.
