Blago Kokot (born April 24, 2000) is an American football kicker for the Portland Pythons of the Developmental Simulation Football League (DSFL).

Early years

Blago was born in Rijeka, Croatia. His father Jakov was a mechanic and mother Ana worked as a teacher in the local elementary school. Life in Rijeka was tough, the family had money only for the basics, so traveling and other luxuries were out of the question. One day the Kokot family decided to start saving money in the hopes of finding a better life somewhere else. Jakov heard that in America there is always a need for people who are willing to work. Every month and every year their savings grew bigger. After seven years of saving money and when Blago was ten years old, they finally had enough saved up to make the move happen. The Kokot family moved to Arizona where Jakov was able to find work from an auto repair shop, Ana also found a job, she worked as a cleaner. It was in Arizona where Blago for the first time played the game of football. He joined his middle-school football team where the coaches quickly noticed that Blago had a strong foot on him. All the years of kicking a soccer ball back home in Croatia showed, he was a natural. From there on Blago kept playing football in his school teams, eventually he joined his high-school team and around that time the idea of playing football professionally started to sound like an option due to the fact that Blago was never the smartest kid around, took him years to learn English and because of that he often struggled in school, but there was no denying the fact that Blago was a talented kicker, which also caused problems at home when Jakov and Ana wanted their son to focus more on school and less on football.

College career

After high school, Blago joined Ariza State University. His parents were pleased despite the fact that the only reason he got in was his ability to play football. In Arizona, Blago did not get to play at all during his first year. The coach of the team made sure that every player also focuses on studying, which forced Blago for the first time in his life to actually try to study. That did not go well, Blago was unhappy. By the time the second year in Arizona started it was clear that the team needed all the help they can get, the coach was forced to change his stand on school and football. That opened a door for Blago to actually get to play, since bigger emphasis was but on football. Blago shined, he was clearly better than the other kickers, the way Blago kicked the ball at times was described as erotic by some and disgusting by others. Blago relied on brutal force and strength over accuracy. Arizona as a team was poor still, during the third year and despite Blago kicking the ball like a horse resulted in only four wins in fourteen games. Blago's time Arizona did not bring glory, but his talents were noticed. Especially his 55.2-yard average and longest punt of 85 yards in year three brought a lot of attention from the scouts.
