Bender Bending Rodriguez (born January 13, 2996) was a American football wide receiver for the New Orleans Second Line of the National Simulation Football League (NSFL). He played college football for Mars University (MU) before being drafted by the New Orleans Second Line in the 2033 ISFL Draft (S18). Prior to this, he had been drafted by the Tijuana Luchadores in the 2032 DSFL Draft (S17).

Early years

Bender was made following blue prints for Bending Unit 22, in Mom’s Friendly Robot Shop. Born in 2996 in Tijuana, Mexico, Bender went back in time to live a simpler life to fuel his own narcissistic needs of women, drugs, and money… which led him to a life in the NSFL. Before he traveled back a thousand years into the past, Bender was a delivery robot for Planet Express, where he went on deliveries and adventures with his co-workers. Bender’s life was not fulfilled by going on these adventurers and his primary building purpose, bending girders. But he always did enjoy bending the rules, even breaking them. When Bender found out about the NSFL from Zapp, he knew he could easily be a star since Zapp was a bum, and that he would find a way to be the best.

Zapp told him that the NSFL is where anyone could get away with anything, and he knew he was here to make a name for himself. A name that should not be shared in polite company or to children... finally living his dream a thousand years in the past. Him and his good friend, Phillip J Fry, both play professionally and remain in constant contact with one another. Fry helps Bender keep him in check when he becomes too invested in the NFSL, reminding him what he came for, ""money and honeys"" as Bender would put it simply.

College career

Along with his best friend, Phillip J Fry, Bender attended for a short while at Mars University. While attending he flunked out of his first year, but made an impression playing for the Mars college football team. He finished the season with over 100 receptions, 669 yard receiving, 11 touchdowns, and hooked up with 6 different robot cheerleaders on the year. That season, Mars made the college football finals against the University of Neptune and lost, since Bender was suspended due to his poor grades. Bender then tried out for other college level teams, even some intramural teams as well, but could not make it because his GPA was 0.69. Even the worst colleges like Yale and Harvard would not even risk taking him, he was a liability. However, Bender did play once more before being drafted in the DSFL, and that was for the New New York inmates against the officers there. In that one game he proved the talent he had was no fluke was going to do the things he loved without interference. All that Bender wanted to do was play football, do drugs, so he traveled back in time to what they called the “Prime years” in the year 3000. So, he decided to take his talents to the NSFL where he knew no one would give a shit about what he did, and live his life to the fullest.

Professional career

DSFL career

"In S17 Bender was heading back to his home town to play for the Luchadores. Bender had a blast playing in his old home even though it was much different than he was used to. In his rookie season, Bender finished 4th in the league in receiving yards with 912, receptions with 60, and top four with 15.2 yards per catch. That season the Luchadores went on to finish second in the DSFL with a 9-4-1 record heading into the playoffs facing off against the Marshals in the first round. In that game Bender was effective both receiving and on special teams. He finished the game with 3 receptions and 57 yards on offense, and 47 yards on returns on 3 attempts. He was the man on the Luchadores and helped carry them to the Ultimini championship; Scoring a touchdown and 35 yards receiving on 3 receptions, and 40 yards returning on 3 attempts in the final. Bender’s draft stock was rising quickly and many NSFL team reached out to get the explosive receiver on their team. But that turned sour quick and when Bender was out partying the Ultimini victory and said some untasteful things about some of the teams potentially drafting him. His tenure was short in the DSFL, but effective in securing a championship. Now it was time to make it to the big time for the volatile Wide Receiver. "

Bender’s tenure in the DSFL only lasted that one season as he was called up to New Orleans right after being drafted with the first pick in the 2nd round. Bender was excited to be in another part city and to make it to the big time, which meant making big time money. His rookie contract Bender signed for 3 years / $12 mil. That night he took his signing bonus and spent it on everything imaginable. Each yeah Bender has spent in New Orleans the team has been continuing to improve, even if his stats do not show it. He has become an integral and reliable player in the passing game for the Second Line. With S20 right around the corner, Bender’s goals are simple for this season. One, break over 1 thousand receiving yards and two, double his touchdown total from last season. Bender has been quoted saying numerous times, “As long as I am improving that is all I care about… now where are those steroids again.” Many analysts in the NSFL have been comparing him to Copper Kupp, and think with New Orleans losing big name receivers it is time for him to put up or shut up.

Only a few seasons into his career Bender has made a name for himself playing for New Orleans. In his three seasons playing for the Second Line, Bender racked up over 1,300 yard receiving, helping his team secure playoff spots each year. However, they were always eliminated in the playoffs, never making it to the Ultimus. After Bender’s rookie contract expired, there was much contemplation if he would be staying in New Orleans or calling a new place home in the next season. After repeated heartbreak in back to back to back seasons, Bender decided to move on and signed with the Yellowknife Wraiths for another 3 year / $12 mil.

In his first season, Season 21, Bender set new personal bests in receiving yards, 677, and receiving touchdowns, 5, for the season. Heading into the postseason, the Wraiths has the 3 worst record of any playoff team sitting at 7-5 for the season. With that chip on their shoulder Bender and his teammates on the Wraiths proved the NSFC wrong, winning the championship game by 5 points over the Hawks. Heading to the Ultimus for the first time in his young career Bender faced off against his former team, New Orleans. Bender and the Wraiths were unsuccessful in winning the Ultimus trophy, losing 33-13. After the game they spoke to Bender about his decision and if he regretted leaving New Orleans. He went on to say, “Game’s over, losers! I have all the money. Compare your lives to mine and then kill yourselves.” Classic Bender, before storming off the field as the game ended he was caught saying “How Can I Be So Bad At Everything I Try, And Still Be So Great?, maybe it is time for him to turn his luck around.

And just how wrong Bender was, his luck would not turn around in Season 22 of the NSFL, it was more of the same for Bender and the rest of the Wraiths. Both individually and as a team they performed well. Bender was a top 20 receiver this year, just making the cut, in receiving yards and finished with his most touchdowns in one season, 6. And it looks like he will be targeted even more next year too, as many people have Bender as a top fantasy Wide receiver this season. He hopes to not disappoint himself, because he bet a lot of money that he is going to lead the league in receiving yards this season. The Wraiths, finished this season with the best record in the league and head into the first round of the playoffs going up against the Liberty. It was not even a close game as they won 34-10. Bender was not much of a factor in the game; with 7 targets, 4 receptions, and only 23 yards receiving. The next game seems like it is always the toughest for both Bender and the Wraiths, as they lose yet again, 17-16, not making it to the Ultimus, and to the eventual winners the Yeti. Bender finished the fame with 4 targets, 2 receptions, and 21 yards receiving. Rumor has it that Bender ran off the field crying saying that he did not want to play football anymore and was looking for the closest strip club to go spend his money at. Bender has not been seen since.
