Austin Roenick (born May 08, 1994) is a retired Canadian football linebacker who played for the Baltimore Hawks of the National Simulation Football League (NSFL). He played college football for the University of Texas before being drafted by the Portland Pythons with the 16th overall pick in the 2020 DSFL Draft (S5). After one year in the Developmental Simulation Football League (DSFL), he was selected 6th overall by the Baltimore Hawks in the 2021 ISFL Draft (S6). Roenick is one of the greatest and most iconic linebackers in NSFL history, eventually breaking the all-time NSFL career tackles record. He was a huge part of the Hawks defence during its two championship runs in 2025 (S10) and 2030 (S15). He is a nine-time Pro Bowler and a member of the NSFL Hall of Fame.

Professional career
Portland Pythons
Austin Roenick declared to join the DSFL in 2020 (S5) before he went on to start his NSFL career. He was a quarterback and he dreamed of becoming like Mike Boss who is an all-time great in the NSFL and the reason Austin Roenick chose to pick a path of a quarterback. Austin Roenick was drafted 16th overall in the 2020 DSFL Draft (S5) by the Portland Pythons. Austin Roenick went on to have an incredible rookie season with the Pythons leading his team to Ultimini III, where his dream of winning in his rookie season ends with a heartbreak loss to the Solar Bears. Roenick won DSFL Quarterback of the Year and was close to winning best offensive player and MVP. His teammate, Dwayne Aaron won the majority of the awards.
Baltimore Hawks
Austin Roenick had a tough choice to make before he got drafted. The quarterback was not needed by teams except the Yeti, Legion, and Liberty. The three teams passed on Roenick and the Hawks drafted Austin Roenick with the 6th overall pick in the 2021 ISFL Draft (S6). Austin Roenick decided to switch to a linebacker since he wants to play in the NSFL. His dream of being like Mike Boss ends but new dream of playing as Jaylon Lee begins. He had a tremendous season with 102 tackles and 9 sacks and won the NSFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award. His team did not make the playoffs, however, as they were in a rebuild.
In 2022 (S7), Austin Roenick continued his path to success by being a great linebacker for his team as he was. The Baltimore Hawks did not make the playoffs again as they finish 7-7 but the young linebacker had an impressive season with 126 tackles and 13 sacks. His tackles number was the second-most in the league and put the league in a notice as he was putting up incredible numbers for a young linebacker like him.
Austin Roenick had a different gameplan in 2023 (S8) as he is more focused on the passes than the players. He posted 89 tackles which is his first time not hitting triple-digit tackles but he improved the rest of his statistics. He had more sacks and pass defence thank his past two seasons which is a big improvement. Even though it was not the season he wanted, his team made the playoffs making it Roenick's first playoff appearance. But the Wraith were too strong.
Austin Roenick continued his pursuit to help his team in numerous ways with tackling the opponent and making the life of a quarterback tough on the field in 2024 (S9). Austin Roenick improved from last season with 92 tackles, 11 sacks and pass deflects which was the best on the team. Austin Roenick continues to improve and continues to be dangerous but his team was also improving. The Hawks finished with a 11-3 record and went on to the Ultimus appearance facing arguably the best team in league history. They could not beat the 2024 (S9) NOLA team.
2025 (S10) was one of Roenick's lowest tackles amount in his career as he recorded only 77 tackles which were his lowest at that point. Austin Roenick knew he had the potential to break O'Sullivan's tackles record. He had 15 sacks and 15 pass deflects which was his best combo and that helped the hawks defence very much to have the Hawks post one of the best records in league history with a 13-1 record. Austin Roenick was more focused on the Ultimus more than his own stats because nothing was better than a championship. The Hawks began to beat the Yeti and then go on to defeat the Second Line in the Ultimus finals which were the Hawks first championship in franchise history and Roenick's first celebration.
In 2026 (S11), Austin Roenick went back to focus on his tackles numbers as he pursues to break the record. He went successful when he posted 117 tackles in the season with 15 passes deflects and 3 interceptions which were his career season-high. Austin Roenick was a top 5 defender that season and continued to be the hawks' key piece for the defence. The Hawks could not post the same record as the previous as they were 9-5 that season. The did make the Ultimus but lose to the Second Line in overtime which is one of the most heartbreaking finish to a season in league history.
2027 (S12) was the season for back to back championships for Austin Roenick and his teammates. But he also put up the most tackles in his season career with 132 tackles. 132 tackles, however, was the 3rd most in the league as Mills and Ramero had higher. Roenick also had 3 sacks and 2 interceptions which was his best but still better than zero. The Hawks went to the Ultimus but lost to the Otters in the finals as their dream for back to back ends.
In 2028 (S13), Austin Roenick continues his chase for the tackles record and he delivers another strong performance with 123 tackles that season which was again the 3rd best in the league. He did have not have much sacks or interceptions but he was more focused on tackles. This was a very disappointing season for Roenick and his teammates as he did not make the playoffs for the first time since a few years with a 4-10 record. Roenick needed to change so that his team would get better and focus more on team priorities instead of self priorities.
2029 (S14) was the year the Hawks made huge moves by signing superstar running back Marquise Brown. Austin Roenick who had rivalries with Brown now were good friends with Brown as they both go for a championship together. Roenick once again had triple-digit tackles with 102 tackles. The Hawks went on to have a 11-3 record and move on to make the playoffs again but their playoff run ends when they lose the NSFC game against their rival, the Liberty in a shocking end to the Hawks season.
2030 (S15) was all about revenge for Austin Roenick and his Hawks. The Hawks put up a strong 12-2 record which was the best record in the league. They face the Liberty in the NSFC championship game and destroy Philly. And then in the Ultimus, they went on to destroy San Jose 49-0 in the Ultimus Final which was the biggest win in league history in the Ultimus. Austin Roenick celebrates his 2nd championship of his career. Austin Roenick also had 126 tackles which is one of his best in his career and officially joins the 1000 tackles club which is a rare club to join.
2031 (S16) was a new era in NSFL as expansion occurs and parity starts to increase. The Hawks championship roster split and their incredible run for championship end as the key players reach near the end of their careers including Austin Roenick. Roenick, however, delivers an incredible 107 tackles and it was a very special season for Roenick and the Hawks as Roenick officially passed O'Sullivan for most tackles of all time. It was a very special milestone and an unforgettable moment.
In 2032 (S17), Roenick announced it would be his final season of his legendary career and this was his tour to the end of his career and went on to enjoy the rest of the season with his teammates and friends. He did not do great but he did enjoy the season with his friends and family. Austin Roenick had a chance to end his career with a championship as he went to the Ultimus but lose to the Otters 28-17 and officially hangs his cleats in salute to his fans in Baltimore.
After a twelve season career, Austin Roenick retired a two-time Ultimus Champion, nine-time Pro Bowler and at the time of his retirement held the record for most ever tackles with 1,235. In 2036, Austin Roenick was voted unanimously into the NSFL Hall of Fame.
