Taffy grew up in Cincinnati. He initially was into basketball, and even became a 3-star prospect according to 247sports. He was also into track and set a county record for the fastest 40-yard dash. It was in his sophomore season he was told to consider to play football. He did not post as good stats as the year prior, although he exploded for two touchdowns, 70 receiving yards and 90 yards against Michigan. Ohio State as went 11-2 and faced Texas A and M Aggies in the Kellogg's Bowl.
