Steven Wadham (born April 19, 2016) was an American football safety for the London Royals of the Developmental Simulation Football League (DSFL).

Early years

Steven Wadham was born in Dunfermline, Scotland on the 19th of May 2016 to American Frank Wadham and his Scottish wife Mary MacGregor. Wadham was obsessed with sports from a young age playing in his local rugby, soccer and cricket teams. As he grew older he gravitated towards rugby more and played for the local Dunfermline Rugby Club. His dad Frank was an avid NFL fan and encouraged his son to try out for the Carnegie Kings who are based in Dunfermline. Wadham fell in love with the game and turned his full attention to studying American Football. He played with the Carnegie Tigers throughout his High School years, moving up the teams until he was the first choice safety by the time he reached 16. He continued this passion when he moved to Glasgow for University transferring to the Glasgow Tigers. Here he was one of their standout players, which led his coach to suggest he go down to London and join the NFL Academy. The scouts there wanted Wadham to join the Academy, but at the same time his father took unwell. Unwilling to leave his family behind Wadham went back to Scotland to help with his fathers illness and continue his studies at Strathclyde. The people at the NFL Academy agreeed to keep in touch with Steven and send him course material, whilst Steven continued to train and play with the Glasgow Tigers. His father recovered from his illness after Wadham first year of study at Strathclyde. This allowed him the chance to go and join the NFL Academy in London.

College career

At the NFL Academy Wadham made an immediate impact. His work rate and determination impressed the staff, whilst his natural speed and agility hinted at his potential to go all the way in the sport. He progressed as an athlete and academically at his time in the Academy which convinced the staff to recommend him to tryout with the London Royals in the DSFL. Wary about his lack of experience, they took the chance thanks to the endorsement of ex-London Royals coach Bruce McBambo. He now coaches at the NFL Academy in London and had been very impressed by Wadham. The Royals liked what they seen enough to give him a chance, drafting him at pick 101 in the Season 25 DSFL draft. Wadham has the drive and determination to reward the faith shown in him by the Royals and McBambo and will be one to watch at the safety position going forward.

Professional career

Wadham was drafted by the London Royals. He spent the first few weeks aclimatising to his new surroundings and getting up to speed with the pace of the DSFL. A rotational player to start the season, Wadham solidified himself as a reliable if unremarkable part of a historic Royals defense. He came into his own in the playoff stretch with 9 tackles and 3 sacks in the two post-season games. This included 2 sacks in the Ultimini final, along with 6 tackles which helped London take home a hard-fought Ultimini. Off the back of this solid first season, and promising post-season Wadham was drafted as a developmental project by the Sarasota Sailfish in the S25 draft.
