Initially a QB, Rico soon became a two way star at Loudoun County, where he excelled at reading the opposing QB's thoughts and soon found himself breaking the Virginia State High School record for both season and career INTs. While QB was his first love, Rico knew his future in the ISFL was going to be at the Safety position where he hoped his prior knowledge of QBing would give him the edge he needed to obtain a D1 college scholarship.

Rico Savage (born August 2, 2034) is an American football safety who is currently preparing to enter the professional ranks. He played college football for University of South Florida (USF) and has declared his intent to enter the professional ranks next season.

Early years

Rico Savage was born outside the Nation's Capitol in the suburb of Ashburn in Virginia in the late summer of 2034. Both of his parents were athletes in High School; however, Rico is the first member of his family to be a professional athlete. While a multi-sport star at Loudoun County High School, football was always Rico's number one passion passed on to him from his father, an ardent Arizona Outlaws fan. Initially a QB, Rico soon became a star at Loudoun County, where he excelled at reading the opposing QB's thoughts and soon found himself breaking the Virginia State High School record for both season and career INTs. While QB was his first love, Rico knew his future in the ISFL was going to be at the Safety position where he hoped his prior knowledge of QBing would give him the edge he needed to obtain a D1 college scholarship.

College career

Rico's decorated high school career afforded him several D1 offers including Virginia Tech and Univeristy of Maryland. However, Rico was offered early playing time at his father's alma mater in Tampa, Florida at the University of South Florida. As a true freshman, Rico saw the field early and often and was able to secure 5 INTs, a freshman record.

During his sophomore campaign, Rico started out strong with 3 INTs in three games before a high ankle sprain sidelined him for multiple games. Although he came back and finished the season strong, he wasn't able to surpass his previous year's total INTs, again finishing with 5.

With the first ISFL draft Rico was eligible for looming, he was determined to show the scouts his true potential. Needing 8 INTs to break both the USF season record and career record for INTs, Rico put on a defensive clinic in 2053, hauling in 10 INTs and 20 pass breakups, both new records.

DSFL Career

S40

Bright eyed Rico Savage entered the DSFL assuming he’d step in and dominate Day 1 like had done every season prior in his football career. That turned out to not be the case, however. Through the first 7 games of the 40th season of the DSFL, Rico struggled to fit into his position on the Norfolk defense and was unaccustomed to not making any splash plays during those early weeks. A re-evaluation of Rico’s game plan and training regimen prior to Week 8 of the DSFL season with Norfolk management led to a radical change: Rico would no longer attempt to be a Ball Hawk Safety and would instead re-calibrate to a new archetype, Enforcer. After making this switch, it all clicked for Rico. For the remainder of the season, the splash plays returned in abundance. Rico finished the season with 2 INTs, 2 Forced Fumbles, and 4 Sacks, cementing him as a blue chip ISFL draft prospect.

ISFL Career

S41

Rico's entrance into the ISFL after being drafted 12th overall by the Chicago Butchers 1st Round of the S41 ISFL Draft brought with it high expectations. As a True Rookie™, Rico played out of position as an Inside Linebacker and Nickelback in Chicago's 3-4/3-3-4 scheme and was having trouble adjusting to learning multiple new positions while also facing the most skilled players in the world. It took 4 weeks before Rico could make a real impact in a game, recording 1 sack and 1 fumble recovery, helping Chicago upset the eventual Ultimus Champion Cape Town Crash. Ironically, Savage's next best game came against the same Crash in Week 13. Trailing late in the 4th quarter, Rico was able to intercept QB Creg Jerrith IV's pass with 2 minutes remaining in the game and return it 33 yards, setting up the Butchers for the go-ahead touchdown. In addition to his interception, Rico had 1 sack and 1 pass defensed, solidifying the Butcher's decision to make him their 1st round pick. After the season, Rico was rewarded with the starting job at FS where he'll look to showcase his play making ability.
