Paul Edgecomb (born December 6, 1891) is an American football safety who is currently preparing to enter the professional ranks. He played college football for Cold Mountain Penitentiary and has declared his intent to enter the professional ranks next season.

Early years

Paul Edgecomb was born in in Tallulah, Louisiana on December 6th, 1935 to Stephen and Bonnie Edgecomb. Stephen owned and operated a well respected general store in town while Bonnie raised Paul and ran the house.

He attended Madison High School where he played quarterback and safety for the team. He was known to be a tough tackler and skilled at reading both opposing offences and defenses. In that era, there was little use of the forward pass, but when called upon, Edgecomb was known to have a cannon of an arm. The majority of the time, however, it was more about tough, grinding running on offence and delivery bone crushing hits on defense. Edgecomb's team was fairy successful, winning one championship in his four year tenure with the team. He spent the final two years as captain. Statistics were not measured the same way at the time, but many have speculated that Edgecomb led the team in tackles made in both of those seasons.

College career

After graduating high school, Edgecomb worked as a laborer for a while prior to World War I. He served in the US Military from May of 1917 until the armistice was declared. After returning home to Tallulah, he gained employment as a prison guard at Cold Mountain Penitentiary.

Edgecomb held this position through most of the Great Depression before resigning in 1935. During his time as a guard and before becoming Commanding Officer of the death row cellblock, he and fellow guard Brutus "Brutal" Howell started a football league at the prison. Edgecomb resumed his former positions as quarterback and safety of his team, while Howell played linebacker and tight end for his. While the league had only two teams, the rivalry between the teams was fierce. Edgecomb's team won the championship 7 times to Howell's 6 during the league's 13 year tenure.

Following his retirement from Cold Mountain Penitentiary, Edgecomb has led a long life. He survives his wife Jan and his son Paul. It is unknown why after 90 years of retiring from football Edgecomb has elected to enter the draft, however those that have heard stories of his time in the prison are very excited to see what is in store.
