In 2033, he began attending Willowbrook High School in Villa Park, Illinois where he played high school football. He played wide receiver, tight end, and outside linebacker before switching to defensive end later his freshman year. As a sophomore the following year, he and the team won the West Suburban Conference Gold Championship defeating sister school Addison Trail. He was also an honor student and a member of the ping pong club. His junior season he had 19 sacks and 27 tackles for loss for the warriors, helping the team win back to back conference championships, a sectional title finally going out in the semifinals of the Illinois 7A playoffs. As a senior in 2037, he had 24 sacks, 118 tackles, five forced fumbles, and two defensive touchdowns that helped the team go undefeated and win the 7A Illinois State Championship. By then, he was recognized as one of the best high school football players in the nation and was included on the 2037 USA Today All-USA team and named all-metropolitan defensive football player of the year by The Washington Post. He was also invited to the International Bowl and All-American Bowl. "

College career

"Mongo received scholarship offers from over 40 universities before committing to Ohio State in July 2037, choosing them over schools such as Wisconsin and Michigan due to their family-oriented approach. As a freshman for the Buckeyes in 2038, Mongo recorded 6.5 sacks, 23 tackles, and a forced fumble as a reserve player. Mongo became a starter during his sophomore season. Despite spraining both ankles mid-season, Mongo recorded 14.5 sacks that year, including three against Northwestern in the 2039 Big Ten Football Championship Game. He was named to that season's second-team All-Big Ten team for his performance. Mongo was named one of the team captains as a junior in 2040. That year, he broke Ohio State school records for single-game sacks (5) and tackles for loss (6) in a win against Wisconsin. He ended the season with 19.5 sacks, 53 tackles, 29 tackles for loss, 8 forced fumbles, 5 batted passes, and a blocked field goal. His 19.5 sacks broke the single-season school record previously held by Chase Young, who had 16.5 in 2019. Mongo won several awards and honors for his performance that season, including the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, Chuck Bednarik Award, Ted Hendricks Award, Chicago Tribune Silver Football, Nagurski–Woodson Defensive Player of the Year, and Smith–Brown Defensive Lineman of the Year. In addition, he was named the Walter Camp defensive player of the week for his performances against Wisconsin and Penn State, and was unanimously named to the 2040 All-Big Ten and All-America teams. He was also named a finalist for the Walter Camp Award, Maxwell Award, and Heisman Trophy, becoming only the tenth defensive player since 1982 to be nominated for the latter, where he finished fourth in voting. Mongo was also voted the Big Ten Jesse Owens Athlete of the Year, which honors the Big Ten Conference's top male athlete annually of any sport. He was the eighth football player to win it since its inception in 1982 and the first since Chanse Young in 2019. Mongo finished his career at Ohio State with 40.5 sacks in three seasons, which ranks first all-time there ahead of Mike Vrabel, who had 36 in four. "
