Early years

Mason Malone was born in McCall, Idaho to Eli and Angelina Malone. He was born extremely underweight, at 1 1/2 pounds and was able to held in one hand by his father. The doctors said that he had a 3% chance of survival but Mason would survive. Mason was involved in every spot available in the small town of McCall but he quickly gravitated towards football. He would lead his high school to two state titles before committing to USC at the end of the college recruitment drive.

College career

Malone committed to playing USC after being convinced by the head coach and head of athletics department that they could develop him into a pro league ready Quarterback. Malone also wanted to play in the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, a secret desire of his ever since he was a child. He would be reshirted his freshman year and would sit behind the senior quarterback, focusing on learning how to read offenses and plays. He did play in the final game of the season where he would record his first touchdown as a trojan and set the tone for the future of USC. Not since the days of Matt Leinart and Reggie Bush had USC seen a more dynamic offense with Malone at the center of it all where in his redshirt freshman season, he would win the Heisman trophy. He ended his Trojan career with one of the most memorable comebacks in college history, coming back from 17-0 in the late 3rd quarter to win the game, 24-17.
