Marc Richard Hamel (born November 22, 1995) is an American football offensive lineman who is currently preparing to enter the professional ranks. He played college football for Laval University (UL).

Early years

Marc Richard Hamel is a young football player eligible to be drafted in the DSFL in the S24 DSFL Entry Draft. He was born in Grosses-Roches, Québec, Canada from William Thomas Hamel and Virginie Suzanne Hamel (nee St-Jean). His father, a military man, starts training Marc early in his life. Marc Hamel was a tall and strong kid, always of a size with boys one or two years older.

Quickly, Marc develops a taste for football and, with his size, is by far the best in the small Grosses-Roches region. When he was 10, his family moved to the slightly bigger town of Mont-Joli, Québec, Canada. Hamel has been known to say that this move was a pivotal point in his development, for there were boys that could compete with him in Mont-Joli. He spent his whole high school career there with the Monarchs du Mistral. He played every position but quarterback and wide receiver, depending on the teams need.

College career

Québec's higher education system isn't made to facilitate the development of professional athletes. Before getting into a university, which would have the highest level of amateur football, Hamel had to go through a general college. He completed a degree in human sciences at Cégep de Trois-Rivières, where he played for the Diablos.

It was there that Hamel started specializing in the role of Offensize Lineman. He was not as physically dominant at this level as he could be in high school and was made to choose a single position by Francis Papineau, the head-coach of the Diablos. Hamel never confirmed nor denied the rumors saying he rolled a 10-sided die to make a decision on the position.

The Diablos weren't a force in the Réseau du Sport Étudiant du Québec, but Hamel's performance in one particular game (Diablos' defeat against the Cégep Édouard-Montpetit Lynx in the finals of the Division II title, Hamel's last game with the team) got him the attention of a scout from the Laval University Rouge&Or.

Next season, Hamel was on the starting line-up for Laval after an impressive training camp. He kept his post throughout his whole four years pursuing a bachelor's degree in marketing, winning three Dunsmore Cups (Québec's provincial title) and one Coupe Vanier (Canada's national title) in his last season.
