Malcolm Savage (born June 30, 2024) is an American football quarterback for the New York Silverbacks of the ISFL. He played college football for North Dakota State before declaring for the 2045 DSFL Draft (S30) where he was selected by the Norfolk Seawolves. He was drafted by the Austin Copperheads in the first round of the Season 31 ISFL Draft but was traded a season later to the New York Silverbacks.

Early years

Malcolm Savage was born on June 30, 2025 to a single mother, Marsha Savage. Growing up on the west side of Bloomington, Malcolm became known as a bit of a troublemaker. He found himself stealing other kids' bikes and dumping them into 9 mile creek. He eventually was caught in the act and was charged with a misdemeanor. The officer spoke with Malcolm's mother and tipped her off about getting her son into sports to keep him busy and off the streets. She took that to heart and enrolled her son in a summer football camp. Once he stepped onto that field, Malcolm fell in love with the game.

Being a young scrawny kid he gravitated to the backfield early on. He was quick on his feet and wasn't afraid to throw out some hits. As he grew older, he began to fill out his frame and skyrocketed to a staggering 6 foot 4 inches in height and 195 pounds. Seeing the potential of his stature, his high school coach decided to move Malcolm from the backfield to the pocket. He was very raw having been used to catching passes instead of throwing them. The one thing he had already was his legs. He was quick across the line when the pocket collapsed. He had elite speed and awareness which certainly attracted the attention of collegiate scouts. He would not receive offers from high level schools and instead took his talents across state lines to North Dakota State.

College career

Savage started his time at North Dakota State on the bench as the team's backup quarterback. He took that time to get acquainted with the playbook since he was scheduled to take up the starting job the following season. Savage was fortunate enough to take a few snaps in blowout games. His arm was still raw, but he used his legs to great success. This was a sign of good things to come. In his second season with the squad, he was promoted to the starting role with the previous starter moving on from the team. He performed well and showed off some flair with his arm, throwing for over 11 yards on average per completion. He was no slouch either in the running game as he managed to find the endzone a total of 6 times. Unfortunately, in the second to last game of the regular season Savage was removed from the game with a foot contusion and would miss the rest of the season and playoffs. With time off during the summer, Savage worked to improve his perception and accuracy since a good number of balls were getting away from him during games. He stormed the field in his junior season and let the Bison to the FCS championship game where they lost in heartbreaking fashion. He looked at his two solid seasons as a starter and decided to declare for the DSFL draft following his junior year.

2045

Joining the Norfolk Seawolves there was not much pressure on the back of Savage. The team was decidedly not very good and have been in turmoil since they last won the Ultimini. Being a rookie quarterback, his struggles showed. He was already throwing significantly more than he did in college. His ground game just could not keep up with the competition on defense at this level as he only managed 260 rushing yards through the full season. The team struggled with their lieu of rookie talent that was still marinating, finishing with a pitiful 3-11 record. Luckily enough that was not the worst record in the league so the team spared themselves from the ultimate humiliation of last place. Savage had honed in his passing skills as the season went on and with his young receivers also developing, they pulled out some fantastic performances along the way including dealing the only loss to the champion Grey Ducks, something the team would see very often.

2046

The second season was the best in Savage's developmental league career. With the team coming off of another season of struggles, the now sophomores took matters into their own hands. Savage would be a menace to anyone who dared step on the field with him. The season would start out rough with the team pulling in only one win in their first four games. What happened next would shock the entirety of the league. Norfolk went on an insane tear in the final 10 games of the season, winning 8 of them and scoring an average of over 33 points per game and only giving up 25. Savage would have his best performance of his career in week 11 of the season against the Kansas City Coyotes. He would pass for 343 yards on 24 completions and notched 5 touchdowns against his class rival quarterback, Carter Knight, winning the game 42-30. The team would finish 9-5 and make the playoffs off of a win and in final game of the season. The team lost in the first round to the eventual champion Dallas Birddogs in overtime that came off of a Savage pick at their own 20 yard line. A heartbreaking loss but the deed was done. Savage would go on to win the DSFL Offensive Performance of the Year, Quarterback of the Year, and Most Valuable Player awards that season. He was rewarded for his efforts by being a first round draft selection by the Austin Copperheads.

2047

Coming off of his MVP campaign, Savage came out the gate firing, scoring 15 passing touchdowns to only 3 interceptions in his first 4 games of the season. The defense backed him up all the way through the season, leading to dominant victories. While he may have been riding high early, the struggles made their way out of the woodwork soon enough. In his next 5 games, Savage would pass for only 4 touchdowns and threw an abysmal 9 interceptions. The team went 3-2 in that stretch despite the struggles of their signal caller. The defense was just that good that season. The team would win out the rest of the season, finishing on top of the league at 12-2. The Seawolves were on their way to another run at the playoffs. In the first round they faced their division rival Tijuana Luchadores and pounced on them for a 40-20 victory, sending them to their first Ultimini appearance in 8 seasons. They would face the Portland Pythons in an instant classic. Portland lead at the end of the first half but Norfolk would lead going into the fourth quarter. Portland would quickly tie the game but a field goal and touchdown would bring the Seawolves just ahead. After a touchdown by Portland and a quick 3 and out by Norfolk, the Pythons were at midfield with just 19 seconds to play. Two broken up passes and one incomplete would seal the deal and Norfolk walked away with their second championship in team history. Savage would fall short in the awards voting that season and was eventually traded to New York for the season MVP Live LaughLove.

Savage would find himself called up this season and would make his ISFL debut for the defending champion New York Silverbacks. He had some big shoes to fill with longtime franchise QB Sam Howitzer hanging up the cleats. He brought a different skillset to the field as compared to his predecessor. His greatest asset was his legs and he utilized them throughout his time in the developmental leagues. All of his skills were put on display in his first professional start against the Hahalua. Savage threw for 280 yards on 24 completions for 2 touchdowns. He also managed to score a touchdown on the ground as well with a blistering 63 yard run to close out the third quarter. The rest of the season did not fair well for Savage as his struggles as a rookie were ever apparent. He finished with the worst completion percentage of any passer and had the worst QBR at 80.3. He was the only rookie quarterback to miss the playoffs. His two direct classmates finished as division winners. Luckily none of them won the Ultimus in their first season but he will always be compared to his peers and right now, it is not looking promising for the young signal caller.

The sophomore season of Savage's career is arguably the best season of his career. The young quarterback rebounded from his debut season and put on a show. He finally showed poise in the pocket and kept the Silverback offense on the field. Sporting a career low in turnovers with just 10 total (8 interceptions and 2 fumbles) he had the lowest in the league but only was slotted fifth in passing touchdowns. His fellow classmates Sailor and Knight proved to be excellent passers and rookie Laughlove was the star of the show. Savage may have not had the best efficiency or most scores, but he proved to be a consistent player and an absolute game changer on the field. The New York Silverbacks could not get it done in the regular season and found themselves on the outside looking in due to tiebreakers with New Orleans. The season was not all for naught as Savage walked home with a Quarterback of the Year award and Pro Bowl honors.

2050

Third season for Savage was alright but there was a step back from his award winning performance from the last. The team started off rather awful, losing five in a row including a devastating 59-3 loss to Honolulu in week 3. Savage accumulated a 6-4 touchdown to interception ratio during that losing streak. The next five games would be quite a bounce back for both Savage and the Silverbacks. The team would go 4-1 outscoring the competition 188 to 146 with Savage throwing 16 touchdowns in that span. Unfortunately, the team would only get two more wins during the regular season finishing at 6-10 and missing the playoffs yet again. Savage is still young but the same corps that got the Silverbacks a championship is hanging around, granted a little older. The team might not have been expected to win an Ultimus, but at least they could make the playoffs. It is still early in Savage's career. He still has time to turn things around and prove that he is the guy and validate the trade the Silverbacks made to get him on the team.

2051

S36 was, to put it simply, a disaster. Everything went wrong and I mean EVERYTHING. Savage found himself throwing more interceptions than touchdowns, and had equal scores to interceptions overall. His completion percentage was at a career low of 58 percent and his interception percentage more than doubled over the previous season. The only solace from this season is that Savage proved that he can be a weapon on the ground. He eclipsed 500 rushing yards for the first time in his career and added on five scores. His coaches had faith in his ability to move the ball on the ground. Throwing was not an option this season and the team just did not have the depth like it used to. Speedman was his favorite weapon in the air and gave him another 1000 yard season. Savage paired well with rookie McTurtle and became a dangerous threat on the ground capable of gaining huge amounts of yards and getting to the endzone.

2052

Season 37 was a true bounce back for Savage. After having his worst season ever, he proved that he could still be an elite signal caller. He increased his touchdowns and reduced his interceptions by 10. Savage posted his most efficient season yet, throwing a completion rate of 62.3 percent and posting a touchdown percentage of 5.3. It was not his best season by quarterback rating but certainly was a great sight to see him come back to form. New York unfortunately found themselves on the outside of the playoffs once again. He sparked a great season for his offensive weapons getting McTurtle to his first Pro Bowl and powered Ken Oath to an excellent bounce back season. The team found themselves at the midpoint of the table and were yet again, golfing in January. Savage got himself a Pro Bowl nod and even managed to earn Second Team All Pro for his efforts this season.

An excellent year. A fantastic year. A year to remember for sure. This season was Savage's best. He was his most efficient, throwing for over 4100 yards at a 62.4 percent completion rate. Savage was an absolute gunslinger, when he wasn't getting sacked that is. His rates were the best they had ever been both in the air and on the ground. Savage was not afraid of letting it all air out, throwing his most completions over 40 yards. The ground game was efficient with a 5.3 yards per attempt but only managed four scores. It was more about the team this year than the individual. New York found themselves in the playoffs for the first time since they won it all back in Season 32. The team was slated as the fifth seed and managed to pull of an upset in the first round against San Jose, winning 31-9. They would eventually be knocked out in the next round, falling to eventual champions Arizona in a very close battle ending with a differential of just three points.

2054

A step back from his best season the previous year, Savage's regression became clear in the ISFL's 39th season. With almost 50 more attempts at 602, Savage threw for over 400 fewer yards at 3,745 and 5 fewer touchdowns at 23 while averaging 1.3 fewer yards per completion at 6.2. Those 23 passing touchdowns are tied for the 2nd least in his career, beat out only by his S36 season with 21. His 17 interceptions are also the 2nd most in his career, also beat out by his 26 interceptions in S36. On the ground Savage also took a step back, barely topping 400 yards with 414, averaging 4.3 yards per carry, the least in his career. He also scored 3 times, also the least in his career. He did pass a rare QB milestone, topping 3,000 career rushing yards, becoming only the 3rd QB in history to do so.
