James Gath (born January 10, 2018) is an American football cornerback who is currently preparing to enter the professional ranks. He played college football for Grand Valley State University (GVSU) and has declared his intent to enter the professional ranks next season.

Early years

Born rich into a family that basically owned the small town he grew up in, James never really had it difficult. His claim that he never lost a football game until drafted into the DSFL isn't confirmed but also hasn't been refuted. Most people take it as fact as nobody in the town he grew up in would want to offend the Gath family. His families wealth and status is responsible for his opportunities to attend the best developmental and coaching programs in the country. It was well known he would be playing in college as he was spectacular in high school. Clearly a level above the competition, James declared for Grand Valley State University in his sophomore year in high school. While it was a bold move, the donations made by the Gath family to GVSU made it essentially impossible for him to go anywhere else. He graduated high school twice a state champion and on the all state team 3 years in a row.

College career

GVSU being a division 2 school, James was one of the best in the country. He was scouted for the DSFL as early as his freshman year. Though he only had a few starts his freshman year towards the end of the season, he was made team captain in his sophomore year. His defense lead the country in total yards allowed and James allowed only 1 touchdown and 32 receptions on 108 targets going his way. This season long performance raised him to the national stage in a big way. His junior and senior years were just as impressive. He allowed over his college career just 4 touchdowns and a reception rate in man coverage of only 23%. He finished with 22 career interceptions and 4 defensive touchdowns earning him All Conference honors three years running. GVSU won the national championship in his junior year and Gath was made the championship MVP after the Lakers breezed through the playoffs with an average win margin of 25 points.
