Early years
Cussion attended Colony High School in Ontario, California, where he played high school football for the Titans. In 2017, he registered 129 tackles, including 7 sacks as a senior. He also played tight end, tallying 47 catches for 695 yards with 12 touchdowns. He received numerous division and conference honors for his exceptional play. A two-year captain on the football team, Cussion was a community favorite and loved to interact with fans, sign autographs and pose for pictures. He was also very involved in local youth football camps.
College career
Considered a one-star recruit by many scouts, Cussion's only offer came from Utah State, which he accepted. Cussion attended Utah State University from 2018 to 2021. A four-year starter, he recorded 445 tackles, 4.5 sacks, and four interceptions during his career. As a senior in 2011, Cussion was the WAC Defensive Player of the Year after recording 147 tackles, four sacks, and two interceptions. He became only the second player in school history to be invited to play in the Senior Bowl.
